Well, I got to looking for a new gun and found this. I was attracted to its cheap price, good build quality (metal and real wood), good accuracy, good distance, and to its incredible velocity (according to reviews on ShortyUSA). I am intrigued by actually being able to snipe, by definition, in airsoft, and would like to persue the position. I think this gasser will be nice and functional, but is 500 FPS just too much? A little backstory: I play airsoft with my friends, mostly little "outlaw" skirmishes in some woods and trenches behind the neighborhood. Some battles get pretty intense, getting 4 or 5 people on each team. I have a crappy 20 dollar pistol, and think it's time to upgrade, as they seem to favor the AEG's. However, there is an honesty problem sometimes, and I got to thinking that the best way to tell if they were out was to make 'em say "ow." But I don't actually want to hurt them. I guess I'm asking if any airsofters out there think I should just pass this one over and look at other stuff...
Edit: I was also looking at this, which is more "managable," still puts out good velocity, and I'd assume it's accurate, but it's a heckuval lot larger and bulkier. Comes with a scope, but I don't know how effective scopes are in airsoft. Edited by DeTrevni - 22 November 2007 at 4:42am |

I'm about to go to bed, but there's a million YouTube reviews of the sniper rifle out there, it's actually pretty impressive for an airsoft gun. In fact, there are a million airsoft reviews on YT in general, most of them pretty in depth (too in depth...). |

I have a few friends who airsoft regularly, and one of them happens to have the first gun, and the 500fps isn't that bad, at a range of less than 15 feet it could make you bleed, but it doesn't hurt terribly bad.

Ya, I second that eye protection statement, I to was shot in the eye luckily it
was one of those 20 dollar spring pistols. It hurt pretty bad but I haven't noticed a difference in my vision, as for the guns I would go with the first, if your friends are worried about getting hit by it have them where long sleeves. |

In my experiences, with backyard airsoft, 500 is far too much. My shotgun shoots 300 fps and it can easily make someone bleed from 20 feet away. That's just my opinion though, my brother has an aeg so I either neded firepower or speed. (I have a red dot on it and it sights in pretty well... from 100 feet, it will hit someone 19/20 shots) If you feel that it will be safe for you guys, than go for it. Watch how far people that you are shooting from you. Make sure that your team has good face protection. Also, for some reason, the hop up doesn't add any effective range at all to mine. Anyone else experience this? Edited by carl_the_sniper - 22 November 2007 at 10:49am |

I play with a lot of people that have the 300 fps shotguns, but really it
makes no difference to me. Also he said he usually plays in the woods with his friends, so if you are concerned about it then use your pistol for close range and your rifle for long range. ___EDIT___ Order it now, because they have a deal going where you can get a free spring powered mp40 with and order over 20 bucks. 500 is pretty steep for a backyard game I would think. Probably won't be too bad if you are really sniping, but if you hit someone up close they are definetely gonna know it lol.

Well, 300 FPS is ~200 MPH, so 500 FPS would be near ~300 MPH I'm guessing...
And for a projectile that doesn't break when it hits? Ouch. Even though it is small. |

Well, when I say "outlaw skirmishes," I mean we play on a GOOD size tract of land. What it is, is a rather large patch of forest between 2 huge (empty) retention ponds. Next to the patch of forest is a large drainage ditch that empties into the retention pond. We've got acres to play on, and for the years we've been playing there, no one really cares. Sniping is actually logical and probably effective there. It won't be point blank range, that's for sure.

Try testing it on your eye protection for sure. If any chips or dents at all happen, then don't use it.

LOL. I've been looking at the same thing. My Current setup is a TM M4 Clone which is currently taking a crap and breaking (But weighs more than my Tippmann), and a KWA G17 GBB (One of the best Airsoft GBB's available) and even that breaks. I take care of my stuff too. Im asking for that for christmas, so if I get it we can have interstate sniper duels. My friends brother has the pistol Mauser by HFC and it seems pretty good. |

DSR rules for organized airsoft require a minimum engagement distance for any velocity over 400fps. My M-21 shoots 495fps and I used a minimum of 20m, with a M-1911A1 at 290fps for anything closer.
I can get my M-21 up to 550fps but .20g/.23gr/.25gr will not fly straight at those velocities. 350-400fps is the standard and many national events limit to <375 fps for any full auto/select fire. Bolt actions can go up to 500fps with DSR rules. 8mm are restricted to lower velocities because of weight/velocity/impact energy. My K98 will fire 400fps with 8mm .35gr and I use 20-25m as my engagement range. Backyard games with anything <300 is fine, once you get into the organized airsoft world rules change. Check the organizations rules before you show up. Paintball goggles will handle up to 400fps, shooting glasses or the wallyword glasses/goggles will not. Balistic goggles/ eye armor are the best choice. |

Well, the Mauser is a semi. Are there restrictions on that? It says it shoots 510 with .20's, but I'm probably gonna run .25's with the Mauser, should I get it. That should drop it into the 400's, in theory... |

You can get it only use 134a. Try .25's but use the 20m rule and you should not draw blood.
Better choice would be a standard all around use AEG for non-organized game use. |

Why? Could propane and silicone harm it? Also, where can I get replacement parts for this? |

All Green-gas is is a propane mixture with silicon oils.
I personally do not use commercial propane adapters, the wrong gas/oil mixture rate could foul your gaslines and blowback vents. 500plus fps in backyard games is a disater waiting to happen, injury, police, lawsuit...just a really, really bad idea. Parts will be an issue for any hybred china/japan airsoft product. Airsoft Extreme, or Red Wolf would be your only parts options probably. |
