    Posted: 24 January 2008 at 2:12am

Inspiration hit. I just HAD to start with this thing again. I needed to fix it anyway (h00ge shoot-down problem), so I might as well do... stuff... to it. We'll see how it turns out.

First, initial pics and stats so we have a "before":

Specs:
- Psychoballistics E-Bolt kit
- 2-way ram w/ dual QEV's
- Palmer's Pursuit Shop Microrock LPR
- Rufus Dawg Delrin bolt and power tube
- Tippmann GTA expansion chamber with vertical adapter (useless for HPA, I know, but it's there none-the-less)
- 98C CVX valve with PB lightened valve spring and piston

Milling:
- Internals polished

Total Spent:
- $0

Update 2/8/2008

Okay so it wasn't milling. My first sin against Velcor, the god of paintball, is this ram. It has been 2-wayed, and I added dual Clippard QEV's I had lying around. This was way easier by FAR to 2-way than I thought it was going to be. Psychoballistics rams are all pre drilled and tapped for 2-way operation. Just pull the spring and seal everything and you're good to go. Only problem is the internal extension of the ram is so thick, the QEV on the top will have to be visible. I'm hoping I can make it look not ghetto. But, this project is form follows function, so we'll see. Good news is, the bottom QEV will be internal.

Update 2/10/2008

So I milled the receivers to fit the modded ram. I say assmebled, it looks pretty good. Surprisingly clean.

Some pics of the dremel work (to be seen in the general area of the cocking slot and just northwest of where your thumb grips the frame):

Some pics of the ram in position (note the air channel needed for the hose on the opposite side of the ram [I thought that bit was clever ]):

And a pic of the ram and receiver halves assembled:

Get rid of the Palmer and much of your shoot-down will disappear.

You think so? How ya figure? I always thought Palmers' had quick recharge rates...

It has been sitting for years, but it's brand new (by that, I mean it's never been used). Maybe it needs a rebuild/cleaning?

I wouldn't open up the guts, personally.  Exposing your internals to dirt and all sorts of lovely things is probably not a good way to keep a gun in working condition.

The gills make that gun. Don't mill them out. I would mill off as much as I could though.

That's what I just told him through PM. He's getting a spiked first shot with shoot-down afterwards. It's the LPR, plain and simple. It's creeping for the first shot and then going to regular recharge rates after that.

That said, DeTrevni, have you broken in that rock yet? Or is it brand-spanking-new?

QFT.

I always thought Palmer's were pretty reliable as well, but my experience with their products is limited to stabilizers.  One other thing to consider besides removing the LPR is that the x-chamber could be restricting air flow as well.  I've seen the problem occur when people upgraded from CO2 to HP air.  Not being real fond of LP air, I'm not positive that similar issues would occur in your situation but it's probably worth trying if the problem remains after removing the Palmer's.

Again, so there is no misunderstanding:  Do not get rid of the gills.

Get rid of the gills? No, you guys are misunderstanding me. I was debating milling between the gills. Milling out the recessions to make "porting," I guess you can call it. But, as Skillet pointed out, dirt is my biggest concern.

yeah, i wouldn't do that.

get a nice trigger, new lpr, centerfeed that beast, and start rippin up the field.

if you want to get crazy, you could always retrofit a matrix frame onto it.

It's a Palmer's, so rebuilding it may be more affordable and just as functional.

The trigger guard is part of the shells, so some cutting and drilling to fit a new guard would be necessary to get a new trigger on there. I'm looking at a new Scenario Dreams Universal T-Board to power it. They are only $54, about the size of a quarter, and only limited to the CPS cap of your marker. I wanna use one of those Fang triggers. I love the way they look.

Best of luck. Remember, fight the temptation to buy every possible thing created for 98 for it.
