Well, this would have been up sooner, but my interbutts were down. So here it is!

First Thoughts

My sister knocks on my door. "It's here!" she yells at me as I wipe the sleep out of my eyes. Woo hoo! Finally! Anyway, I rip the box open, only to pull out... A SMALLER BOX! FRICKEN AWESOME!

So I tear that box open, and behold! The glorified, midgetized Spyder!

I pulled it out. Not too crazy about the grips. I tried putting on the stock grips from my 98C. They were big enough to fill my hands comfortably. Problem is, the top finger grove positioned my finger too close to the guard, so it made it more uncomfortable. I put the stock grips back on. Other than that, the fit, finish and feel are all quite nice so far. First thing I noted, though, was it was rather large for a pistol, but rather small for a paintball gun. I guess that means it's just about right for me!

And here's the marker with the magazine detached and all the plugs removed.

It's fairly easy to swap 12's, but after I do the side-drop mod, it will be a lot easier. It takes 7-8 turns for me to pull the CO2 plug. After the mod, it should only be enough to loosen it. Maybe one or two. I looked for some reviews on YouTube. The only MilTec pistol review I found was from a person who was fairly, well, newbie. He complained that the magazine was difficult to put back on. Simply not true. To detach the mag, simply push it forward and pull up. To put it back on, push it forward and push down. No trouble at all. Not too crazy about the mag plug though. I do like, however, the fact that they put a ring on it to make it easier to grab. I'm also gonna do a front-loading mod, where I drill a hole near the front of the mag to dump the paint. This should make reloading way less time consuming and easier to do. And putting the hole in the front puts me in a better position to reload while I'm in a bunker.

And now to the holster that came with it.

The holster took some modifications to get the pistol and mag to fit. Namely, I had to cut it open some more, as seen here:

The threads around the area where the 12g plug is had to be cut. I'm probably gonna hot glue it or something to hold the other threads in place so the cut doesn't spread. But anyway, it fits now. It took some work, but I also got it to fit around my tree-trunk thighs (it's a leg holster). There's a front pouch for a spare magazine and some loops for either 10 rd. tubes or 12g's, but neither of those features will be used.

And finally, here's my pistoleering setup:

What I'm rockin' is a Rhinotech 40 loop SC harness. That ought be plenty for my semi-auto "stock class" needs! For disposal of spent 10 rounders, I've got a PB Mafia large dump pouch. Should hold all my tubes without a problem. If not, I'll just shove them back in the harness.

Performance Testing (no pics)

I went to my local Academy sporting goods store and picked up 5 12g powerlets for about $2.50. CO2 is gonna be 'spensive... Anyway, I toss one in, cock the marker and air it up. No leaks. Very good sign! I drop about 10 rounds into the mag, let one chamber and drop another in. 11 rounds in the marker. I plug up the mag, unlatch the spring, take aim and blast through the mag. Boy this thing is fun to shoot! I go through the first mag, repeat the process (10 in the mag, one in the chamber) and blast through those. Then, I dry fire to see how long the average powerlet lasts. One more shot and then it's empty. Come to think of it, I noticed the last few shots were a bit low in velocity. Usable, but low. I'd have to say that equates to about 23ish usable shots per 12g. Not terrible for a Spyder-based blowback. One thing I noticed was a nice amount of kick. I personally like the way a little bit of kick feels when shooting. Somehow adds to the "authenticity." Others, however, may be more bent on performance than feel. Another odd occurrence: there was what would have been a chop if the paint I was using wasn't so old and crappy. Just pinched the paint. Now that I think about it, I don't know if there's enough mass or travel to chop the fairly low-end paint I usually buy. This may be a blessing. Expensive tourney paint would be torn to shreds though. Anyway, not a negative occurrence at the moment. As for the accuracy, so far it's terrible. Could be due to a few things: firstly, I don't have a chrony, so the velocity could have been anywhere, as I eyeballed it. Another thing was I noticed a bit of oil in the barrel. I never cleaned it out, so that could have contributed to it. Of course, as I mentioned, the paint I was using was old and crappy, so...

Oh, one last thing: Even with the velocity knob tightened all the way, the velocity appeared to be a bit low. I may need to shim it a bit to bring it to about 260 FPS (about the perfect balance of velocity and efficiency, IMO).

Final Thoughts

So far, I love it. Feels good, looks good, and performs good enough. After I do my mods, it will perform amazingly. Not a bad deal for the total I spent on the entire setup! I'll do an estimated rundown: $110 shipped for the G1 (free holster), $23 for the dump pouch and $20 for the harness plus about $8 for shipping, an estimated $10 shipped for 50 10 round tubes with speed caps (I'm getting a deal with someone. No info will be disclosed, so please don't ask) leads to a grand total of $171ish for a complete pistol setup, minus the cost of paint and CO2. Not bad at all, especially for the $350ish a decent Tiberius setup would have cost me. All-in-all, a great setup for those looking to get into pistol play!

The Good:
- Affordable
- Decent quality
- Looks
- Spyder-based (with a Tippmann Pro-Lite drive spring)
- Not proprietary

The Bad:
- Metric
- Velocity seems kinda low
- "Made in Taiwan"

Future Mods

- Side drop-out CO2
- Front-loading magazine
- CCI Phantom pierce pin
- Nice Duracoat, anodizing or something

That should be all I need!

And in closing, here's a pic of my newest family member modeling my newest toy!

A paintball pistol is useless.

'Nuff said.

Can't wait to see what you do to it.

While I stand by my conviction that paintball pistols aren't useless, I DO believe that "sidearms" are. This sucker is gonna be my main when I play with it.

It was either this or a Tac-8, and I chose this one strictly on potential performance best suited for my style of play. After careful analysis, this is "my" pistol. And I bought it new. So if you think about it, this particular marker was made for the sole purpose of me playing with it! Kind of a neat perspective.

^^^^Lol. Hey, you gonna mod it any? Smack some side rail's on, maybe a little tac-lite, some sweet grips, a scope for looks. It looks kinda mean for real. I just look at it and see modding potential.

I need a 3357 barrel/chamber. I have a nice 357 laying around just waiting to be modded.

Crosman, that is.

G1. And the logic defeats itself there. If I wanted a full size marker, I'd have gotten one.

And as for mods, I'm gonna mod the magazine for front loading, cut a side drop out for the CO2, probably Duracoat it, and I might put a rail on the bottom, under the CO2. I don't want rails on the side, as that would make it needlessly difficult to holster.

PGP's are tanks man. Nothing like the heft of some good brass! I've never owned a PGP (but I have owned a PMI-II and a KP-3), but research shows that the pre 2K PGP's are superior to the PGP 2K's.

You have to tell me how that holster works out for you. I love my ACP2.0, but the ariakon holster is just awful. Your gun looks very similar to mine and I've been looking at the UTG holster for a replacement. If the pistol fits well into your holster I might have to look into that one instead.

the pgp2ks are just as good...  The only problem with them is some of the bolts where too short, and an eraser mod is required to not chop paint.  They also have some plastic parts that are pretty brittle.  However, I have done with that by buying a speed gate from Palmer's.

I prefer my PGP2k over my Phantom 85% of the time.

I thought about it, but it was too big a risk. I kinda wanted one soon, and there's the possibility I wouldn't like the Tippy pistol. Besides, I don't know enough about it. The G1 is Spyder-based, so I know the thing inside and out.

Well, I was somewhat joking.

And I was thinking of that exact idea when I first posted here.

Speedball with pistols is pretty fun, based on my one experience with it (had a PGP for oh, a month. Tons of fun).

Pistols shipped yesterday (pistol"s" because my friend bought one as well). Should be here by the weekend. Getting excited! Expect many a duel! And maybe even some quickdraw competitions!

Im going to wait for Tippmann's Magazine fed pistol.

I almost brought one of those when it was Armotech that made them but the whole issues with leaks was what turned me away from them. Since most people I knew that had one said in under a year they turn into expensive paper weights from the leak problem.
