Closed bolt means that when the gun is fired, there bolt is closed on a loaded chamber. On an open bolt gun like a tippmann, when you pull the trigger, the bolt closes, chambering a ball, and fires. Having the back of the bolt exposed doesn't alter the closed bolt method of operation.
