Guitar Question.

Well, I'm looking into getting a guitar just for something to do and a new challenge of sorts.  I'm not going to be playing it in a band or professionally or anything, so I'm not looking for something ungodly expensive or anything.  My price range (including amp) is no more than $300/$400.  Yes I want an electric guitar because I do.  If this price range is to low, tell me so that I can get a job or something to get the extera money...

Thanks.  Is it any good or total crap because I can spend more money if need be...

Squier package is a very good beginner pack. I had one when i first started out. The package comes with so much stuff now its unbelievable.

It's the same as paintball, you don't want to give a started a timmy, but probably a tippmann or something and if he gets better and sticks with it, give him the timmy.

No... No no no... Anyone who plays should not even suggest an electric to you, if this is your first guitar...

As others have already said, if you are serious about learning, start on an acoustic... An electric will mask your true skills starting out and not allow you to progress like an acoustic will... If you really had to go electric, get an acoustic/electric with an acoustic amp...

Look at lower end Fenders and Gibsons for some decent guitars...

Besides, Squier is crap anyway... Not worth shelling out three bills...

Most people don't even need distortion or effects until at least 6 months after they've started.  Most even longer than that, and thats if your good.  More than half the people that pick it up don't even stick with it. When you start out with acoustic, you can get down the basics and move up to the electric if you stick with it.

I just want an electric because that's the kind of music I'm going to be playing.  I want to work out some of Hendrix's solos and stuff like that.  I don't really want to have guitar as my primary instrument because I've already invested over 1.5K into my trumpet and countless hours of practice and gigs.  I just want to add another instrument to my list and have some fun while I'm at it...

Ok.  I've made a new decision!  I'm going to go with an acoustic because you people told me to.  Does anyone have any recomendations on model or whatever.  Remember, no more than $300...

Edit - I can already read music, so I don't need any "Starter Kits" or crap like that.  I've been playing trumpet and fooling around on bass guitar for like 6 years now (the bass is my friends), so I can already read and I know all the notes in both clefs and stuff like that...
