Sup all. I was wondering if you guys could help me help a friend out. He's wanting to get into paintball and is looking to purchase a gun. I know this is a Tippmann forum, so you guys would probably be biased, but I'm hoping for some good suggestions. He wants something close to a mil-sim marker but he's open to mostly anything. Here's basically what he wants: - Cool looking/realistic (like a mil-sim) He's interested in Ariakon's Sim-15 or 5 or 4. He also thinks he wants a sidearm for backup (I'm already trying to convince him otherwise, so no need to tell me). I've been trying to convince him that a 98c would be nice, cuz he could get the 98c, J&J Cerami, CO2 tank, hopper, and mask and be well off, but he's still hesitant about the look. Any feedback is appreciated. P.S. I was thinking of convincing him to get the SP Ion, if he can go that high for a marker. He's still got to consider all the other things to buy though. I would say go with the Smart Parts ION.
It's only $285 at County. I would also say yes, the 98 Custom is a good choice. He can make it look how he wants it with certain kits and such from EnglerPaintball, too. There are so many modifications you can do the 98 Custom such as milling off the lettering and such. (Model98.net) He won't be disappointed if he goes with these choices. EDIT:: He can also consider the NEW MARKER coming out in March from Tippmann. We do not know what it is yet. Also he can consider the new 98 Custom Pro that you can now pre-order too. And, if he doesn't like the 98, there is also the A-5. Edited by Bolt3 |

I have used it for a few games at my local field. Easily walkable and compact. I personally love it and feel it is NOT total crap. |

Go with the 98c, especially if have limited mechanical ability. It is easy to maintain and extremely reliable!

I say go for the 98c or A-5. They are both reliable and very upgradable.

Arikon makes some great guns. They also have a ACP, it is their combat pistol. Their guns will fit the image he wants and he can buy a cheaper model. Make an account over at the Arikon forum and ask them what they think. Their guns can be upgraded alittle but are pretty good to start off with.

Go 98C or A-5. New marker will be to expensive right out of the production line. I wouldn't suggest going with an ION either, cause its kinda expensive for a new player and he won't have much money for customization. The A-5 will be good enough, or even the 98C. That's all you really need to start out.
About the secondary, I coulda used one in my games a few times, but that's only cause my friends take my paint and CO2 (Crazy trigger fingers). Your new, don't really need one. After you play a bit, figure out how much paint and CO2 you use every game and then decide whether or not you need one. I got a Core ZX, great backup. Got 5 7 round clips for it that I keep in my pack. Go with that if you're really gonna get one. But as of now, I really wouldnt suggest it. |

Thanks guys, I'll try to convince him the 98c is the best choice, that or wait until march (not too long now) and see what else Tippmann has in store. I think the Ion's too much to spend on for him (especially since it seems the only time he'd use his gun is when he goes pballin with me).

Pretty sure he means "United States of America". Usually refered to as Americans where as Canadians are referred to as Canadians. |

Bluemonkey, please kill yourself and never post on this forum again.
As for the gun, go for the A5! It fits your description perfectly. Mil-sim looks, under $250, heavily upgradable, and awesome performer out the box.....what more could you want? if he wants to shoot fast out of the box, tell him to buy it with an Rt or E-Grip. Even with the E-Grip, you will have a 15bps capable gun+adequate hopper and Tippmann reliability all in a gun under $350. I own a ProCarbine, M98C, and A5RT, and I would definitely go with the A5 for your buddy's situation. |
