I got an a-5 for woodsball and i don't really know which upgrades to get.  I'm planning, so far, to get a BT Paintball Folding stock or something like it.  I'll need a more accurate barrel than the stock and maybe a scope.  What brands should i get, what else should i get, and what should i NOT get?

Heres a list of what you should get...

  • Flatline barrel
  • stock
  • remote
  • r/t
  • red dot sight

That's the basics. Get anything else that you feel the need for though.

Um, that is why you should get a red dot, instead of a
scope. The red dot sight merely an aim point device, ie.
it helps you point the gun in the right direction,
instead of just guessing. Therefore if your paintballs
miss, it is because of the paintball inacuracy, instead
of user error. This is why Red dots are used in close
quarters combat; there is no need for precision shooting,
just the need to aquire a sight picture quickely.

I like red dots, I would say get one. The folding stock
sounds nice too, I want one of those. The RT is great,
and if you want more consistancy get a Palmers Stab, they
give better expansion than an xchamber anyway.

Sheesh, this is making me want to get out there and play
some woodsbal

Yes a Palmers Stab would be a very nice investment, I just bought one and it has improved my shots at the chrono by  A LOT, normally no more then +-4 or 5 every time. only bad thing is that you need to shoot about 2k shots before it is broken in. (just shoot air if you want) So if you buy one and it doesnt seem to work that great, shoot it and get it broken in and then you will tell a difference.

Accuracy depends on the player and the paint. If you cant aim or keep the gun steady, its your fault. Also, crappy paint wont do so well with a Flatty. Look into a CAR stock, remote coil, RT, double trigger, expansion chamber, and red dot.
Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

Its very accurate considering other barrels can't even reach that range. If you want to compare the accuracy of the flatline to a normal barrel at flatlines rages the paint shot the the other barrel is already on the ground while at least the flatlines is still ite air. You wont have any accuracy if the paint isnt making it to range of the target.

i've also heard that a flatline is picky about paint.  i don't wanna have to buy marballizers (sp?) for a woodsball game so just any kind of premium paint?

One thing that hasn't been asked or mentioned ... How much is cost an issue?

Barrel should be your first concern. If cost is an issue, I would say get a J&J Ceramic barrel. This is also a good back-up barrel to have if you do get a Flatline.

Next, air set-up will depend on your style of play. I don't like remote lines because I like being able to switch hands quicker than I feel I am able to with one on (yes, I've used one ... didn't like it), but that is just me. So, you need to look at two sets of options first:CO2 (cheaper start-up) or HPA (Cheaper long-term operating cost if available in your area).

1. If CO2, you will really want one or more of the following:

  • Remote line (also usable with HPA)
  • Expansion Chamber
  • Possibly Anti-siphon tubes

2. If HPA, you may want one or more of the following:

  • Remote line (also usable with CO2)
  • Regulator or stabilizer (also usable with CO2)

3. If not using a remote, you will want a Drop-Forward

Third would likely be trigger improvements. I prefer the E-Grip in most situations, though it is more expensive. If you won't be playing tournaments, R/T is just fine.

Finally are the functional mods that are more aesthetic, than performance related. Here are my suggestions:

  • Red-Dot sight, though I would still suggest a sight rail in combination to it to make it easier to use. I like the Armson - the day red-dot sight is pretty good, but I prefer the night version a little better, though its more expensive.
  • Stock. I prefer the MP-5 Sliding stock over the folding ones.
  • Hopper (maybe, though not really needed): smaller or bigger depending on your play style. Make sure its an A-5 hopper though since it only has a few choices due to the Cycolne feeder.

Do not bother with any internal upgrades except for spring kits or polishing the internals. Aftermarket internals haven't had much success.

A-5: 12" Ceramic, Egrip/WAS/Duel, HPA, MP5 sliding stock
SMG-68: 12" Ceramic
68-Specials(8): 12"&14" Ceramic, 12V Revy *** 1 Tip-n-Strip, 1 Blue, 1 FA w/Qloader
SL-68: 14" Ceramic
SMG-60 Ext. Line

Go with a flatline barrel, a stock of your choice, r/t system, and a sight of your choice. You can find this on specialopspaintball.com believe me it is a well known website (join the brigade)
