Unless you use a wire brush or sandpaper, it's unlikely that barrel has been harmed. The texture is a bead-blasted finish that is done to the metal not applied to it, so it won't come off unless you wear it down through use(more than 100000 rounds) or abrasives. What you have described is the proper cleaning technique however, so don't worry about it.

Also, what's the best way to align the barrel perfectly with the receiver?

like he said, they sandblast it, but you might want to take one of the end-caps off the barrels and make sure that there is no rust in it. also, when you oil your gun, use only hoppes 9. anything else wreakes havok on the inside of your barrel.

Wow, I have never seen so many miss-statements in one set of posts. The Flatline is bead (sand) blasted on the inside to make it rough so that it provides enough friction for the ball to roll, which develops the backspin. When I say it is rough that is only compaired to a polished bore barrel. Most other barrels have virtually a mirror finish on the inside. The Flatline might be called a "matte" finish on the inside...no luster or gloss. There is nothing that can wash off. Soap and water is one of the best ways to clean it. The Tippmann squeegee works very well...use a little water with the squeegee between games and the barrel will stay in tip-top shooting condition.

As for oil: DO NOT GET OIL IN THE BARREL. It kills the friction and ruins the flat trajectory and accuracy. The oil is also very difficult to remove without going through the soap and hot water routine.

When you oil the gun action remove the barrel before you dry fire the marker (no paint) 10 to 20 times. This will distribute the oil through the action and, hopefully, blow the excess oil out of the action so it does not get deposited in the barrel when reinstalled.

Speaking of oil, there is not much needed. Two or three drops through the ASA each week. Hoppe's #9 OIL is good as is any pneumatic oil (do not, by mistake, use Hoppe's cleaning solution). I have found the power tube and the "O" ring on the hammer work very well with just a thin smear of lithium grease rather than light oil.

Ok, everyone relax.

The question got answered, he didnt do anything wrong, nor did he do damage.

To my knowledge, tippmann does not "re-finish" flatlines.
