would it be such a good idea to saw off the feed neck on the egg about 3/4 of the way down after the bend in the clear tube part?...to make it sit lower....i measured how much i need for it to still fit on my 98 custom feed elbow

I wouldn't try it on a $70 hopper, but I'm not you. Go for it if you want to.

Cut a little off, but not so much that it wont rest in the feedneck..

  If you don't feel confident in your abilities to cut off the neck, then take it to your local proshop.  Most will cut it off and fit it to your gun for cheap if not free.

Its longer than it needs to be. Just like feed tubes on Mag bodies. Cut it down little by little.

I cut mine off and it works fine. I used a Dremel.
