nitrogen is cleaner and more consistant. but the real reason is because nitrogen is more stable and is kept at room temperature. the liquid co2 going through a gun or just the cold temperatures caused by it cause damn to o rings, electronics, and other such things in the more higher end markers.

The higher end guns have more delicate internals. These may be optimized for high speed and gas efficiency, but they are not built to handle C02. Hence, they need HPA/Nitro.

Thats gotta be the stupidest explanation ever. Liquid CO2 is extremely cold. The CO2 will not affect your board whatsoever. However it will kill every seal in your gun during high rates of fire. You really don;t want -100 liquid CO2 in your solenoids. Compressed air is not cleaner. In fact its probly dirtier, since CA is just pulled in from the atmosphere and compressed. I am also curious as to the explanation to why Compressed air is more stable...... |

It goes the same for a lower pressure...low pressure markers + HPA = Good. It is also just more consistent. No one uses nitrogen gas anymore (at leaste pure nitrogen) because it is to spendy. The majority of the community use HPA (HIgh Pressure Air) because you just use the air we breath (which is 78% nitrogen anyway). |

Compressed air is considered more stable with regards to temperature. CO2 will change pressure much more than compressed air. If you live in an area that has cool morning and hot afternoons, even a 20 degree difference, say 50's in the AM and 70's or even 80's by midafternoon, you will notice a difference in velocity because of the pressure differences. HPA that is supposed to be used for the tanks is filtered to remove at least the moisture. It is supposed to be the clean breathable air as used by SCUBA divers and firefighters in their SCBA gear. |

Right-o. The SCUBA/SCBA air is breathing quality air, as well as the air that comes from compressors. Most high pressure compressors put out "Grade E" (I think that's the one) breathing quality air. So unless the filters on the compressor are old and dirty, HPA is a very clean method of propelling a paintball. Edited by hybrid-sniper |

that doesn't make CO2 dirty....
and your definition of stability is really bending the term. |

Well I'm guessing the only reason that people would think that CO2 is dirty is because there is carbon in it. Carbon is the black stuff you see when you burn your pop-tart. However I fail to see the difference in cleanliness. |

As they explained, it's "cleaner" as well, you can look it up. Also, with the cooler nature of the CO2, ice crystals may be present and create wear as well. I remember reading about that in "the ultimate guide to paintball" at my library. It's also how I learned about the 300fps rule. |
