    Posted: 11 September 2005 at 6:41pm

Hey, I'm thinking about getting a Smart Parts Ion, but I wasn't sure what upgrades are out there. Can someone help me out and tell me some good upgrades I could/ should get for the Ion? I'd appreciate it.

I don't think there is much performance wise. I gues a Halo B. That's all I can think of. I guess you could paint or get a unique body for it?
NASA and the Americans spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to develop a pen that would write in space.....The Russians used a pencil.

Oh, yea I read that it's good to use an eletronic hopper with it because of the rate of fire. What about a new barrel?

first upgrade... ASA  Go for a Unimount with On/off.  I suggest a Redz Railz.

Second. Feed Neck, I dislike medium/tall feednecks(personal prefrence) and so do 90% of other paintball players, go for a Halo no rise, or even a Redz Cam-lock feed neck will work great, and keep your profile low.

third. Barrel(DUR!) In this are it is totally up to you, but I really like the Smart Parts All American and the Lapco Bigshot, they will give you the best shot for your money.

4th. Regulator, I really don't like the regulator on the Ion, there very bad, I made this one lower in the list becasue of the price tag on a Regulator. But I suggest a Palmer Fatty, or a Bob Long Torpedo they will give you the best consistancey for your money.

after that, I guess a QEV, body kit, Trigger and some grips if you need them.

Probably a stupid question, but what's a QEV?

Probably a stupid

How you going to learn if you don't ask?

QEV = Quick Exaust Valve.

The QEV kit replaces your from banjo fitting. On the "exaust" part of the firing cycle, the air will exit at the fitting instead of having to travel all the way back to the solenoid. Users report that the QEV allows the dwell to be set much lower resulting in a faster cyclic rate and lower air use. (Note: a faster cycling rate is NOT the same as more balls per second. The Ion board is capped at 17 balls per second.) Instulation is very simple. The only issue is getting the QEV to seal, which may requied changing the (included) o-rings

Hmmm... for the price you can't beat a Bigshot, but for a awsome barrel for under $70 deffinetly go for the Freak Jr.

Don't forget about a trigger. If you are going to keep the Ion in Semi then a new trigger is a very good upgrade (or even if you're going to use rebound mode). I'd suggest this one.. http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/S tore/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=HYshyBujIs QgzliH0rDhYBEFFfpFkvYY67Y=?ProductID=IATAqArbgBoAAAEEiZA7WxA c .

I read that the gun is small, so it's harder for larger people with larger hands? Is that true? Also, should I get a drop forward?

drops are preference... the duckbill is definatley uncomfy...so I truly recommend some sort of drop whether it be Unimount or a Drop Forward

Speaking of ups for the Ion:

1.  Are there any aftermarket (or SP) bolts that would be recommended, or is the stock bolt perfectly fine?

2.  As far as QEVs go.  Which one is best?  I know there are several QEVs out there (I have a Palmer's 360 on my A-5 and it's BIG) of different sizes.  Which one would be the best fit?  I don't want to modify the body to install a QEV.

3.  Thinking about upgrading to a Rampage Board.  I'm very satisfied with the Rampage board I have in my A-5.  Other than the lack of availability, what are the cons of the Rampage vs. other boards?

Just fishing for opinions guys.  Upping the Ion looks to be my 'Winter Project'.  I'd just like some input and ideas.  Thanks!

Or what?

Look, if any post is readable - it is fair game to respond.  What difference does it make anyway?  I would have still asked the questions whether I created a new post or posted it on this thread.  Perhaps your energy would be better spent in actually helping, instead of being overly critical of where posts are made.
