What good is shooting at someone REALLY fast?
What good does it do? I never found a use for it. |

Well yeah I know that'd be fun but I don't have enough money to
shoot like that and besides, how does it increase your chances of
getting people out?

I'm an accuracy guy, myself. Plus I don't like seeing all that money go out my barrel, so I shoot only when I know I'll get a good chance of a hit. However, the more paint in the air, the more likely it is someone is gonna step in front of a ball slinging at them...That's another reason I only like to play hopperball. When paint is just slinging around the field, it kinda takes the fun and strategy out of the play. In Hopperball, when these overzealous kids start shooting like crazy, I just sit back and wait for their hopper to empty out, then I move in for the easy hit (unless they whimp out and call themselves out, early).

I agree with spudcrazy, unless the guy is darting across the field and you have to take a few shots and lead him. Other than that pick, and choose your shots. If paintballs were $20 a box, it might be a little different. Strategy makes for the best played games.

It is just to say that you can shoot that fast. You can brag to your friends that you can shoot 20 bps. It really only takes one paintball to get the opponent out.

Hmmm, when you shoot fast, it keeps people down behind bunkers and allows your teammates to move. I love to shoot fast, hell its only money, i cant take it anywhere when i die.

Umm say your shooting 20 balls per second. The balls are say maybe 8in. apart in the air. try running through a rope of paintballs without getting hit. you probably cant.

I found myself debating this too, only it was when I was shopping for a gun. Back then, I decided to go with a 98C, because the way I figured it, one paintball one kill. But now I am moving into tournaments and I am definatley at a disadvantage. I now would rather have the option of shooting fast than not having the ability to. |

More balls in the air, more of a chance of one hitting your target... One question: Have you ever played Speedball? |

What the heck are you talking about? 300 FPS divided by 20 bps = 15 foot gaps. Check your math. To put it more realistically, 300bps would equal one ball per 12 inches. The only thing i see helpful about fast shooting is purely intimidation. So if your opponent is bold and unafraid, the person shooting 20 bps is probably going to get owned in the face and in the wallet. Edited by DarkSideEchoes |

The gap is actually quite a bit less than 15 feet downrange, as the balls start catching up with the earlier balls that have slowed down some... But regardless - you won't be able to run through that 15-foot gap either. You have 1/20th of a second to pass through the rope - your body is, let's say, two feet wide. To move two feet in 1/20th of a second you would have to be moving at 40 feet/second, which is equal to 27 mph. Or, to put it in Olympic terms, you would be running the 100-yard dash in 7.5 seconds, which would be significantly faster than the current world record. And, of course, even if you could run that fast (with all your gear), you would still have to time it perfectly to make it through. 2 bps you can run through. 20 bps you can NOT run through. That's some pretty good utility right there. |

AND, while I'm at it - another situation that happens frequently, particularly in the woods, is that you are trading paint with another player in a low-probability situation. This could be shooting at extreme range, but more likely due to obstruction - you are both trying to shoot through a bush at each other. Let's say one ball in 3 will make it through the bush - and you still might miss, of course. If your opponent is shooting 2 bps and you are shooting 20 bps, you have a significant mathematical advantage over your opponent. Another example, from a personal recent speedball experience. I was playing with my A-5 RT w/Flatline. I noticed one of the back players on the other team casually walking across the back of the field (large field), thinking he was out of range. Of course, with my Flatline I could reach him, but I had no meaningful accuracy at that range. So I unloaded as fast as the RT would go. By the time he realized somebody was shooting at him and went for cover, there were 50 balls in the air, and I got the kill. Shooting 2 bps I would have had ZERO chance of getting him out, Flatline or no. There are plenty of times when ROF is not particularly important. But to say that it is never helpful is just silly. |

Well yeah, I guess shooting 20 bps has it's advantages.
Like that long range thing, I've done that like twice. I've never played speedball so I GUESS I could see it being useful even though some guy posted something about these pros who played with pump guns and a pocket full of paint and still won IN A SPEED BALL match. Hey if I had money I'd probably try some speedball but I don't think I could get into it. I know that "sniping" is actualy called "lucky shot" so I don't try it. I've shot my fair share of speedballers in a tight spot with a 98c Except for the 14" barrel there were no other upgrades. I also know my wallets limits, which means "no speedball" About bunkering people? I've bunkered people with 2 shots just as well as I've seen people do it with 100 so what's the use there? The more balls going down range, the more of a chance some poor slob will get in the way of them.
