    Posted: 20 October 2005 at 7:53pm
HERE'S the problem.  I offered my kid sister (16 years old) my VW Golf Car and promised to fix it up, paint it (her choich on colour), PAY for fuel and Inshurance and take the time to teach her to drive it (cause its stick shift).

Now shes gotten pissed off at me for some reason and i dont know why???  I admmit the car is UGLY and VERY slow and stickshift can be intimidateing whe your a new driver.  BUT i dont carer if she blows the clutch and toasts the trans i can fix it i was trying to be nice and get her on the road as i soo wanted at her age.

The only reason im offering her the car is cause when i was her age my grand father gave me his POS that was falling apart i paid and got it road worthy and drove for a year and was proud as could be to OWN my OWN car.  Now for her my grandfather nor my parents are in a positin finacily or visically to do the same for my sister and i felt bad.

Being as i got a new job ALOT closer to home i figured i can do witout my daily driver and could give it to her for her first car and even fix it up to look half decent.

Her response was basically that its a old POS and not Automatic and is ugly and worthless.

Am i just getting old her or is she NUTS.  Hell free wheels a 16 sounds great to me and though it was a great idea for her. Instead she gets pissed at me and tells me i should get ride of my ugly POS and fix my dads car for her a 200 ford explorer with ALOT of miles (too mutch work needed and i cant afford to do it needs an engine and trans(soon), 4x4 hubs, and some electronic work) not too mention its a pig on fuel and pretty expensive to inshure?

Just wanted some opinions see if maybe im nuts?

Heres a pic of the cr im offering her:

If her other option it to walk, I'd take the car.

I dont think it would look bad hot pink. Any car is better than no car.

Kids are just greedy today. My first ride was a mini van. At least she can get a car.....

She's complaining about you fixing up a car for her, teaching her to drive it, and paying for it? I wish you where my brother.

It looks alot better than the bashed '71 Pinto I had when I was 16. Tell her not to look a gift horse in the mouth or she'll end up with a bus pass instead.

Her other option is to borrow my moms minivan when she can.

The other thing with my car is its diesel and stinks of diesel when its cold starts but thats out side not in the car.

Glad to see im not the crazy one just guess shes more intrested in the image than a car to call her own?  ah well cheaper for me anywh at least i offered.  Pluse i kinda liked driving that little thing kinda fun and amazing on fuel hehehe i currently go a MONTH on $40 of fuel LOL.

Um its AMAZING on fuel it gets a best of 50mpg and a average of 46-47mpg.  Although its only got 52h and 71lbs/tq its slow but adaqute for even the hiyway gets to 130km/hr (80mph) no problems cause its geared right and really light.

tell your sister (who now sounds like a total jerk in my ears) that this is a means to an end. you sound like a cool guy for giving her a car, and if this is how she treats you, tell her to shove off and buy her own car. you are just trying to do her a favor! anyway, tell her if she really wants another car, she can use that one to get to a job she should be getting soon, and she can use that money to buy a better one. all i can say is im 16 and i would love a car like that.

as for opinions, that car looks pretty clean for what it is. maybe some rims and bodykit, if they exist for it, and maybe a redone interior. how about a performance suspension or exhaust? just some ideas. anything to make more than 52 horses (nitrous is good!).

Dude, shes lucky to have a bro that will do that for her.

I have to buy my first car, pay for insurance and fuel and any of the work that needs to be done that I cant do myself

That car is not that bad, there are no 6 inch rustholes everywere, the paint looks clean. woulnt look bad with grey or black rally stripes. Need a 16 year old brother that rides a motorcycle and likes to work on stuff like engines? Ill take that car off your hands lol

Or beat some sence into her and tell her to pay for her own car, buy insurance, fuel and repairs.

It must be women, seriously. My sister is now 17, and she positively REFUSED to drive this one car that was an excellent deal. Great gas mileage, only 20k miles on the car, and it was some good price. She wouldn't drive it because she deemed it ugly. She ended up paying a load more for a Nissan Altima ('04, I think) and I think she's a fool. Me, I don't plan on getting a car until I'm well into my 20's.
