It's called the Apex. It's made by Ben Tippmann.

it has ridges in it, so that air can flow under the ball to spin it.

I've heard good thigns about the hop-up. Apparently distance is comparable to the flatline, with somewhat favourable accuracy over the flatty. Also remember that a well-tuned 98 flatty will get better perfoemance than an A5.

Yup, he actually said that.

Different principle than the flatline but results are similiar.

Distance is comparable to a flatline. Accuracy is better than an A5 flatline at 100ft. Accuracy from 110+ft is pretty negligible.

I own a WarSensor WS66 (well, I'm selling it) and it's a pretty interesting how it works. Given it's design, I would expect it to shoot curves when tilted to the side (like that of the Tippmann Flatline), for some reason, it does not. Can't quite explain it.

It must be because the design fails to spin the ball to the same degree as the flatline.

Makes you wonder though. The hopup barrel gets comparable distance to that of an A5 flatline (I'm assuming it's the same for the 98 flatline, I don't know anyone with a 98c/flatline setup).

Could the Tippmann flatline be further improved to impart a spin that achieves the same distance but with less of a degree of spin?

Maybe a new flatline barrel designed should be in the works (non-apex barrel).

i still favor smooth bore.  i play tourney and speed and i tilt my marker into the bunker.  this would throw a flatline off.  I think the hop-up might be the next barrel type of the woods-scenario world though.
