O.K I have done some research on this and I am NEWB who wants to learn all I can. Also paintball isn't that big in my area and all I have is you guys for my questions. I have noticed that alot of you guys have 14 inch barrels. The question is why? I have read that a paintball needs a minimum length of 8 inchs to reach top speed and stabilize. Also I have read that a longer barrel doesn't make your gun shoot further. It will actually cause more friction and you have turn up your velocity. Which will then make you use more co2. The guys at Tippmann informed me that there is NO difference in accuracy between a 12 inch or 14. Also It was just a matter of looks. so why does every one want 2 more inchs of friction and a longer gun that uses more co2??? Is it really just for looks or am I missing something.

Its not just for looks, barrel length affects your performance no matter what people say.

Dude, you've asked this before.. it's getting annoying now. As we have told you before, 12 inch and 14 inch are basically the same in performance, 14 is better for "POKING AROUND" however they will shoot the same. I personally like longer barrels so that I can poke through trees.. it all depends on how you play, anything above 14inch is pointless though

unless you went fron a 1" to a 24" i doubt you would ever notice a large air efficiency loss

Hey carl the sniper, what barrel do you have? thank you for posting your opinion. Instead of a little kid responce. but I have read (from this forum) that you will have to turn your velocity up to get the same shot out of a 16inch tht you would get out of a 14 or a 12 inch.

There's two groups here.

1. The group that plays airball and likes the extra length of the barrel because they can tuck into the bunkers better.

2. People that think the extra two inches really does anything.

a longer barrel isnt better. i have 12, 16 and 20 inch barrels for my gun and the 20incher sucks the big one. i find that i actually loose distance with this barrel(SP linear) the 16 is only good with good quality paint but when it gets paint it likes then watch out.(Evile Pipe kit) and the 12incher is a barrel i got from rap.com for 34$ and it shoots anything i put through it. i say get a cheap 12inch barrel like a lapco bigshot or J&J ceramic other people swear by them here.i have never used either of them.
Canadians do it on top.

yeah but these are completly different barrels of different lengths. to actually tell us that you would have to have a 12, 16, and 20" all the same type of barrel

like i gurantee if you had an 18" freak it would be way more accurate than a 12" ceramic..

i have an apex barrel (10.5" i think)the apex's only come in 1 size or i would have gona for a longer (for millsim purposes)

the velocity thing might be true but only by a few fps... not really noticible

Tippyact98, are you stupid? My join date is one month that dosen't mean I've been in paintball for month wow. Anyone who dosen't know that there is no difference from a 12 to 14 inch should lay down and cower. I've been in Paintball for two years which seems to be quite longer than you judgeing what you know among paintball products. I just recently switched to Tippmann and have already done many mods to my gun, much more than you. I have been a Spyder fan and Autococker fan before I came here. Before you judge, you should get the real facts newbie. By the way, I do own the Revo and the Savage Nitro Monster Trucks... And I promise you with the mods I have done with them they will destroy yours, something tells me you haven't strapped a 6 hp engine to your little T-maxx eh? You're acting rather foolish by assumeing things that you don't know. Either way, you're knowledge on THIS forum on PAINTBALL is very low and I can promise you that if you want to do a test on who knows more, I'll win. P.S. For someone who joined in august for you to only have 8-10 posts is really really sad.. you are contribute to this forum don't you? Hah.
Keep asking the same questions over and people are bound to get annoyed moron.

:-\ foolish if you ask me .....

Post count and or Join date have nothing to do with a poster's experience , intelligence or contributions for the general good of the forum .

You above most others revoXT should be aware of that .

The 12-14 " rule of thumb is just that , you dont gain any performance by having a longer barrel .

Most barrel systems have inserts around 3-4 " in length , that would be my minimum length for performance (excluding effects of barrel porting , and the Flatline )

I've had the JT stainless two piece barrels in 10 and 14 " , theres no noticible performance differences , in fact I played a few games of speedball without ANY front on and it shot just the same , so ,,,,

As you see from the Poll above , its about even between the two lengths . those two lengths are about the best all around versatile and useful out there .

I have to apologize to revoxt. I didn't know that 2 years is the minimum you need to bash on a newb who wants to LEARN from others with knowledege. you would think that people would want to help a new guy learn. Even if it involves some stupid questions. yes I have asked this question before and it was ansewered. By revoxt with his vast knowledge of paintball. I then bought a 12inch. As I stated before I'm a newb. I never suggested I new more than anyone on this paintball forum. I do know that when someone asks a question that you should not act as if you don't have time to help a new guy out. Thats a good way to promote the sport of paintball. Don't you think? And as my contribution on this forum, I will start with this poll. Who knows maybe a newb will read it and it will help him/her with there next purchase? I hope in 2 years that I have not forgotten what it was like to not know a thing about paintball. And make time for the stupid questions so that a newb can enjoy the sport as much as I do.
