So i can one of three handguns all are around $530
i can get a new springfield XD a new Beretta 92 or a "certified used" sig p229 any suggestions? |

What's the intended use of this pistol? Concealed carry, personal defense, recreational shooting? Springfield is OK if you want a DAO trigger, it would be fine for defensive work. M92 is a bit bigger than the SIG, but may fit you better. Also mags are plentiful. SIG is smaller than the M92, and are generally accurate pistols. I wouldn't have a problem with buying a certified pre-owned SIG
May I ask why you chose 9mm? affordability and magazine capacity, or because you want to be able to say "don't make me bust a cap in yo azz wit my nine foo!" ? All of those pistols are available in .40S&W EDIT: If this is for plinking only, I'd say try the M92 and P-229. Go with what feels best in your hand, what has the best controls in your opinion. What type of lockwork do the other pistols have? The XD is double action only, the others may or may not be depending on the exact model. Generally DOA triggers are a bit difficult for bullseye shooting, but the consistancy is good for training and stress situations. Edited by rednekk98 - 14 December 2006 at 7:09pm |

its just for plinking. they both the 92 and sig feel equally "right" in my hand, so in lieu of the XD being a da only action, im looking mainly at the
92 now considering its new and i think it has a higher mag capacity. |

I would not get a .45 for plinking, evil go with the sig honestly, it's reliable as hell, I'd trust a used sig any day. And rednekk has the greatest idea yet. I'd do that evil.

i hate the trigger pull and the general feel of Glocks. the trigger just seems really sloppy to me, not crisp at all like the 92 and sig.
and rednek, spending 800 on a handgun, then another 200 for a conversion kit hardly seems economical to me, that and i hate the small grip of the 1911. 636andy636. - and why the tetanus shot? |

personally i would go with the 92 ive shot the .40 version and the gun
just felt right i mean i absolutely loved it although it was my dads and hes uped it for competition shootin so i dont know what a new one would feel like but i would still get the 92 |

That was gonna be my question. Which feels better in your hands, as comfort is something that many seem to forget about in choosing. I wanted a Sig P228 for a long time... til I held one in my small hands. Wanted a 92FS... til I held one in my small hands. Either one you go with should do the job. I decided on 9mm for essentially the same reasons you did. Economics played an essential role in caliber choice, I do not plan on carrying (although I do plan on getting my CCW anyway, just because) and use in self-defense is secondary to punching holes in paper. Evil Elvis constantly busts my balls about not getting a .45, and while I have been eyeballing M1911s, they just don't meet my needs right now. .45ACP ammo cost is VERY high these days, and yes I could get a .22 kit to soften the blow to the wallet... in fact I did, for my 9mm. Plus, being new to handguns... self-teaching myself to shoot starting right off the bat with a 45ACP didn't make much sense to me. I went with a CZ P-01 in 9mm, added a 22LR Kadet kit, and couldn't be happier. 9mm FMJ costs me 13c/rd, 22LR costs me 3c/rd. Which makes trips to the range affordable for me. Now if I could only shoot straight...
