I was told by someone here on the forum that a 98 ACT would be a tad bit slower than a regular 98 Custom.  (Don't include when the ACT it engages in "ACT" obviously).

So... is this true? and why?

I don't see why it would because it's the same setup just with a little less
metal and a spring setup.

no reason for a bump...  Theres no reason for it to go slower.

I don't see any reason why it would be notably slower. I'm talking less then 1/2 a bps here.

Also, yeah, the bump was fairly pointless.

I hadn't gotten 1 post from someone that I would ever listen to.

kickinwing2010 is a jerk who likes to insult me every chance he gets and he thinks he knows a lot about paintball too, so I just ignore him now because arguing with him is a waste of my time.

Anyway I said a tad bit slower.  Let's say I want to set a record for the fastest a Tippmann can go with a Cyclone and RT. Looking at the picture of the ACT hammer and rod.  The Rod is bent and has to hit the aluminum interior so the rod then goes down and actually ingages the hammer to have it move forward.  Therefore this is more than a little friction.

Plus the hammer is probably heavier than my titanium hammer therefore slower than my hammer in my regular 98 Custom.  Therefore slower.

Therefore slowing down a tad bit the gun.  I wanted to find out if I was right about this.  But it looks like no one has ever though about it this way before.

O.K I have been checking on this, and from what I have read on many web pages is phil might be right! For some reason the 98 custom with out A.C.T is rated for up to 11 rounds per second! The newer A.C.T equipped 98's are only rated for 8 balls per second. I checked actionvillage, tippmanparts, and specops. Let me know if this information is wrong guys.

Is anyone going to let me know what they think, give me a little more proof why or why not this is right or wrong?!?

...

Anybody?  Hello?

and why would your r/t + cyclone combo be any better than anyone else?

The added friction of the bent rod was likely taken into consideration when they were deciding on what spring to drive it.

^this isn't helping answer my question, but if you have to know:

1. My cyclone is on a 98 Custom and not on an A-5 and therefore my Cyclone will feed tad bit faster than a Cyclone on an A-5 because of blowback gas.  I learned this a while ago.

This info was taken from this thread:

Originally posted by <SPAN =bold>Mephistopheles</SPAN> Mephistopheles wrote:

On the A5, biggest "problem" is the air source. Unlike the 98Custom it is not from the CVX channel. Rather from blowback gas. A much more thinned out and weaker air source.

That's why, on average, a 98 w/ Cyclone and RT can fire and feed faster than an equal setup A5. That's why I junked my A5 and went back to a 98Custom. Cyclone was better on the 98.

Besides that, the Cyclone EP pretty much fixed the other kinks.

What is the CVX channel?  I thought both markers had the same type of valve system and powered the Cyclone from blowback gas.  That was supposed to be the reason that you hardly ever get chops.  (cause it only feeds after a shot = feeds from blowback gas).

Are you saying that the cyclone on the A-5 doesn't feed it from blowback gas?

Please elaborate.
Thanks

KISS= less things to go wrong.
in the problem about Popcorning. I really havent looked into why some hoppers popcorn & some dont. so IDK about that one.

here is a pic of what Im talking about what could be done
sorry so small. I couldnt get the link to copy & paste right.

the red triangle is the new "ratchet". the gray rod thing is the link attached to the bolt. when the bolt moves back via blowback, the link will spin the cyclone.
the A5/X7 cyclone uses a spring to spin it. and thats after the air pushes the piston forward. thats alot of time for the bolt to start to moving forward. causing chopping in higher BPS

Wow, I never knew this.  This is great info and can be used in those 98C vs. A5 debates, lol.

2. 1/8 inside diameter hoses for both Cylcone fittings and the RT fittings (also known as Super RT).

3. I have Techt Vortex Mod

4. I have the Techt Lightening Rod

5. QEV (right now I only have a Clippard MEV) but will upgrade to QEV because I heard there is a slight possibility that it could slightly increase speed and a slight increse is still an increase.  So I'd get a palmers 1/8 inch QEV.

6. Dark Horizons Rear Titanium Hammer
(I might try the lite version but I heard it didn't work because it was too lite and therefore too fast to actually catch the sear). (--and will polish the Lite Titanium Hammer if I do get it and it does work)

7. Dead on Paintball Pro-Seal Powertube which is a perfect fit with the Dark Horizons Rear Hammer that I have. Plus the Rear hammer not only fits nicely but it can slide in and out much easier and therefore a slight bit quicker because it is a fraction wider and therefore there is less friction = slightly more BPS (but I still has an excellent -oring seal) so also great air/gas efficiency.

8. I spent 3 hours polishing my internals to a perfect shine and all by hand using first steel wool and then using Grit 660 Sand Paper made specifically for sanding/smoothing/polishing metals and then the final touch by polishing with Mothers Mag polish.

9. I polished the DOP Pro-Seal Powertube also with the Grit 660 Sand Paper and Mothers Mag so the rear hammer can slide in and out a tad bit faster.

10. I will sand down the plastic bumps on the bottom of the inside of the Cylcone Feed.

11. I also polished the DH Rear Titanium Hammer with the Grit 660 Sand Paper and the Mothers Mag.

12. I am using C02 which sometimes can go faster than HPA.

**There are only two exceptions:

A. The only thing that could make a faster cyclone would be if the X-7  Cyclone was faster (when put on a 98 Custom of course) after all the same upgrades although considering it already has vent holes, the QEV could seem useless on the X-7 rendering the current Cyclone faster than the X-7 Cyclone. It all depends on whether the Palmers QEV > Vent holes in the X-7 Cyclone or whether the Vent holes in the X-7 Cyclone > Palmers QEV.

B. The last exception to having a faster Cyclone than the way I explained to do it is with the following.
First you must know that the reason it is suggested not to use the Lite Titanium Hammer with the RT is because it goes too fast and doesn't catch the sear. (Let alone with the Super RT but I will try it anyway, even though most people haven't been able to get it going slow enough even with the RT).

So anyway what I'd have to do would be to test the Low Pressure Kit with the Lite Titanium hammer to see if you can get the DH Lite Titanium Hammer working because some did get the Lite Titanium Hammer going slow enough using LPK and LPA Tank because of the lower pressure made it go a slight bit slower.

--  The only problem with the above would be sometimes people have noticed higher speeds with C02 because of higher velocities that C02 can sometimes give whether it is just because your tank is full or because you had a velocity spike or both.
-- So whether the Low Pressure Kit with Lite Titanium Hammer with LPA Tank would be faster than a Regular Titanium Hammer with C02 Tank would have to be tested to see which is faster and I'm sure it would be a slight difference.
But I was just giving the option for doubt.

Once I figured out what gave me the fastest setup on a Cyclone and RT I'd video tape it and then make a sticky on this forum explaining everything that one must do to grasp every last BPS they can using the RT and Cyclone setup. (the sticky would like somewhat what I just typed, I could actually make a sticky thread now if people wanted but I think I'll wait until after all my tests are done, unless people think otherwise).

Hope that explains what you wanted to know DsXz.

I'm guessing that if I really want to set this record I should stay with the 98 Custom I have now.  But I'd like to hear opinions...

Hey phil, I don't think you can sticky anything with out a mods approval. Second, I will give some credit for your research on this but, are you for real? Come on dude, this is time well spent to you?

Well you look at some people on here that spend plenty of time building e-bolts and modding their Tippmann's.

The fact is I'm on my way of accomplishing this but I'm don't expect to actually run the test and own everything mentioned until I'm done university and making money.  So maybe in 3 years.  But for now planning is something that can be done because working on my paintball stuff is something I enjoy like many.

But even better is having a goal at the end of it.  Setting an Internet record for the fastest Tippmann RT + Cyclone setup is to me like making the best all around Tippmann woods gun on the market and when you can help others because of your knowledge about putting the right parts toghether people appreciate it.  I come here and see people like Bruce A. Frank and Natural Newbie (on Model98.org) and they are just fountains of info and help tons of people.

Some people have different hobbies, whether it's woodworking, playing squash, kayaking, playing rec sports or working on your paintball gun, teaching others about paintball upgrades etc.  Doing what you enjoy is the key thing in life.

Sorry I turned that into a speech.

K thanks,

It's kind of funny how no one really answered my question.  Although I kind of thought that it would make it a tad slower anyway.

Phil, how fast does your marker feed now? Because if you have already topped the speed your cyclone can go (20-23bps) then I would suggest getting a better hopper so you can see improvements.

The Cyclone can go faster than 23bps definetly.  It has hit 26 bps consistently with some setups that have QEV and Vortex (on an Egrip setting).  27 bps too but there was some chops.

He didn't even 1/8 hoses or the lightening rod.  I know I can get my setup shooting faster after I invest some time and care.
