Well its not the equipement its the player, but because its an electro, i wouldnt take it in the woods, IMO its too much money for something that you might screw up out there.

If you want to play woods, look into a different gun, If your going to play speedball, the shocker would be awesome, but for woods, its iffy.

Then why are you trying to buy a 800 dollar or more gun...

if your playing speedball start with one of the e-spyders or a tippmann 98 or a5, they wil be great on both the woods and speedball field and wont cost you a billion dollars

Shockers will work fine in the woods. Some people tend to have this stigma about speedball markers only being good for speedball. It simply isn't true. I use a DMLCD in the woods all the time and don't have any issues what-so-ever. The shocker is a fine marker for any type of play. Now, I PERSONALLY wouldn't buy one, but that's just my moral standards coming into play since I don't like litigious companies on a general basis. But yes, any kind of electro-pneumatic marker is fine for woods-play, be it a smart-parts, DYE, Eclipse, etc.

tallen, i would like to point out that chances are el-loco has more that likely never played paintball, or has barely played, for him to invest money in a shocker would most likely be a waste.

I greatly suggest you get either the A5, an E-Spyder, or an Ion they all work great in both the woods and on the speedball field, and cost less than half of the cost of a shocker.

the spyder and a5 can also be run off co2, if i even see anyone trying to use co2 on a shocker i will hurt them severely...

to get started with a shocker will cost you about 1000 bucks, an e-spyder, ion or a5 will cost you 200 to 400 bucks.

i suggest you check those guns out.

i would advise that, a spyder works too, you said you would play speedball more than woods, so a spyder will work just as well as the a5.

its your choice.

Alright, I would advise you to pick 2-3 guns that really spark your interest and are in your price range. I would advise against a Shocker for right now, seeing as you're new to the sport. If I were in your position, I would check out the A5 and Ion.

Both are great guns and highly customizable for both woodsball and speedball. The A5 runs off CO2 or HPA while the Ion runs on HPA only. The A5 comes standard with the cyclone while the Ion requires you to buy a faster hopper. The Ion comes standard with an electronic board while the A5 requires you to purchase the Egrip.

You need to decide what you're looking for out of the gun and what your price range is. Figure those few things out and get back to us.

Pumpker'd; (V.) When a pump player runs up and shoots you at point blank range because you thought 20bps made you good.

no, you shouldnt use co2 with an ion. if you going to get co2, you best buy the a5, or a spyder, there are lots of spyder that run on co2, just look for them.

some i suggest:

a5

spyder E99 avanti (i think thats the name)

spyder mr2

^ I LAWLED

Anywho, sorry, I was under the impression he had played a bit before. That said, get your hands on a few different markers and see how they shoot. I've gotten away from blow-back operated markers (with the exception of repairing them) over the past year or so. I'm a performance oriented player, and while you CAN make any tippmann perform rather well, for me, It's like buying a Porsche with everything you want already on it, or buying a Lexus and taking it to a customization shop to build it up piece by piece. While the piece by piece method may work for those that don't have the start-up capital, if I had the money, I'd go buy a Porsche.

That said though, you can't just buy a marker by looking at a catalog or some youtube footage. You need to get your hands on the sucker and at least fire it with some air through it. Go to a pro-shop, ask a TON of questions (don't worry most techs are bored out of their wits 80% of the time and are more than happy to just have someone to talk to) and try out a few different markers even if it's just with some air or reballs.

Here are my personal entry-level to mid-range suggestions:
  • '98 Custom Pro E-Grip
  • Kingman Spyder VS2
  • Autococker Pro-Stock SF
  • PMR
  • SP Ion or Epiphany (though I will never buy SP on moral grounds)

Those are all in the $200-600 range NEW.

Another thing to look into are used markers. You can get a heck of a deal on a used high-end marker and equipment if you know where to look. If you are seriously interested in high-end electro-pneumatic markers and have the patience to learn how to properly use them and care for them then look into the following:
  • Angel LED (No lcds, flys, speeds, etc. Keep it simple)
  • SP Impulse with eyes!
  • '00-'04 Autococker, but only if you are very mechanically inclined
  • DM-LCD, Gen-E Matrix, or DM4
  • Older Bob Long Intimidators
  • Shoebox Shockers (4X4 Turbos, etc with maxflow regs)

Now, most of these are older, chunkier looking, and heavier than the newer markers out there. They have the advantage of being less complicated though. LED angels will run forever, they're like the tippmann pro-lites of the Electro-pneumatic world. Impulses (again, I'd never buy one since it's smart parts, but that is a moral issue) are a good intro-to-electro marker and are basically the granddaddies of the ion. Eyes are a must in almost any electro-pneumatic marker, otherwise you'll be shooting soup (with the exception of the older angels). 'Cockers are wonderful markers, but unless you like to fiddle with your marker and are very mechanically inclined, stay away, it's too easy to get curious and mess something up. Older Matrixes (DMLCD/DM3, Gen E, and DM4) are getting really cheap now. I picked up my DMLCD for under $200 with a better board, bolt, reg, drop w/ on/off, snatch-grip, and empire reloader hopper. All it needed was a good barrel and an hpa tank which I already had. Older Timmies are great, just need a fast hopper and HPA. Finally, "shoebox" (due to the bulky shape) Shockers are pretty darn decent and the older max-flow regs let you run them on CO2. A fast hopper is very necessary. Also, anti-siphon is necessary for them even though the Max-flow did a good job.

Seriously, get out there, try out some different markers.

Well, the post above me pretty much solved the question for you.  I had an impulse for a while, and i liked it.  They are very cheap lately, and upgrades are VERY easy to get a hold of.

Plus, with the older(big) maxflos, people have ran the impulses off of anti-siphon co2 without any problems.  Even though they prefer HPA.

hybrid-sniper~"To be honest, if I see a player still using an Impulse I'm going to question their motives."
