    Posted: 20 May 2007 at 8:00pm

So I bought some parts and started cutting/assembling the shoulder-launched model rocket delivery system that I posted the ideas for before.

Some basic questions that have come up:

What type of battery do these things need? Will a 9v work, or do I need to go bigger?

I prefer to not have my face burned so what is a good length for the part of tube that extends in front of you that the rocket won't burn your face? I will have a face shield and a paintball mask on but just to be sure, how long should it be in front?

Again, not going to be a weapon.

I suggest you go buy a model rocket kit and observe the flame at launch for yourself.

4.5 volts total. The launcher button I have is powered by 3 AA batteries (If I remember correctly).

Your best bet is to have each round have a some metallic strips. One for the base and one ring. The tube will have connections to connect those two strips to close the circuit. All you'd need to do is push the button.

Exactly what I was going to do

Except I bought some t-shaped pipe so I can just take out the plug, send the rocket down the front, and wire it in the middle.

Do you think a 9v would still would or would I have to wire 3 AA's together?

I insist on vids. This should be awesome.

The rocket launcher, face mutilation or both?

There will be pics up tonight.

Firing is a month away when I go to my cottage in Wasaga Beach after school. (beach=safer)

I only have about half the parts bought including a red dot for random coolness.

The month should give me enough time to raise the money to finish it. My goal to never work retail has it's ups and downs.

Usually 4 AA batteries.

And Carl, you're at least going to earn yourself a Darwin Award honorable mention.

You should use it while skydive paintballing. This idea is right on par with that one.

That's a better idea than launching model rockets from your shoulder.

Do you think that this design will fly straight while fired horizontally? What would you change?

I'll declare myself impressed by your trailer-park electronics/explosives wizardry.  Your ebolt was impressive, and this has potential win all over it for sheer pyrotechnics/mutilation.

This is kind of like watching DSH in real life.  I also insist on safety equipment made from cardboard.

(and vids are, of course, mandatory.)

you should loop that wire through a nipple ring first though in case, its humid day, the moisture could throw the balance off.

Without being sarcastic I think you should put 2 triggers on it, and a spring in the back, so that way you first use the spring to launch it out then the other trigger ignites once its out far enough. I think that would make it a little safer.

I don't know how I would wire that

Was toying with the idea of a rocket launched out before the charge ignites but I just don't know how i'd pull it off.

I do plan on having a safety switch as well as a trigger switch.

No promises on safety equipment from cardboard.

God, I will do my best to make a vid of this.
