I recently upgraded (so I thought) to a HPA tank from CO2. I was told by a few comrades to do the switch so I did. I have had nothing but trouble with my HPA tank and trying to tune my marker to it. To boot I have never had problems running CO2.
I am wondering how players feel about each system and which they prefer and why. |

What kind of problems are you having? I have never had an issue related to the use of HPA as opposed to CO2. I largely prefer HPA because pressure is more consistent, the pressure gauge let's you know how much air is left so you don't have to keep track of how much you shoot or wait for the gun to fart, fills are quick and easy, I get more shots per fill from my 88/4500 than a 20oz could give me, HPA is affected much less by the weather, and liquid CO2 is not an issue. CO2 will let you shoot the gun but it tends to freeze things up, bust o-rings, and you won't get many shots out of a fill if it's cold out unless you have an x-chamber or something. However, if I had to use CO2, my anti-siphoned 16oz hooked up to my stabilizer is a pretty good backup. Between the anti-siphon tube and the reg, the gun doesn't freeze up and the pressure is actually pretty consistent for CO2. I still prefer my HPA tank though.
If you're still having problems with your HPA setup, let us know what the problem is and I'm sure somebody can help you fix it. There should be no modifications necessary to switch from CO2 to HPA. |

To start my gun would not shoot above 250fps until I got the reg rebuilt and now the 1800psi bursting disk keeps blowing so I have to take it in again.
The problems I am having are more related to the tanks themselves and maybe its just my bad luck with them. I guess I need some good pros to stick it through and get my tank working. Then the other tank I had went in for Hydro where the reg broke off in the tank rendering it useless. So I bought another tank with more problems it seems. I have never had a problem with any of the 7 CO2 tanks I own. So it is a little discouraging to spend ruffly now and when I buy a new reg to replace the on that was broke will be over $300. By now I could have bought 2 new tanks for that price. I just need to I it worth it to stay with HPA and get through these problems. |

I have had no problems with Crossfire tanks or their regulators. Who did your hydro? They certainly were not stopped from doing the test and did remove the broken part remaining in the bottle neck, didn't they? I like Crossfire so well that I have installed their valve/regulator on all three of my tanks. If you had no spiking problems and no freeze up problems then there was probably no good reason to switch to HPA. |

The first tank that broke was not a crossfire and I had to drill it out myself. The second tank I bought to replace has been giving me problems too.
It's just discouraging when you switch and have nothing but problems and wonder if it is worth it in the long run. I'll get over this bump but for more than it should have cost me. Tough lesson learned. Next time I will ask you guys questions before I jump right into something and get hosed |

Did you buy a new or used tank? If people take care of them, they should be ok getting used. The problem with your burst disk going off is most likely that the spring stack in the reg is not functioning properly. I had the same problem. I wouldn't have bought a HPA tank that needs a rehydro. Atleast find something with a couple of years.

I still use CO2 on my pumps, but I've never had a problem when I've used pre-owned tanks at the field.

Yeah the Hydro thing was a lesson. I talked to some local shops about doing the hydro and it was cheap so as I thought I got a good deal on the tank and then no big deal getting the hydro done. Wrong. Thats where I did not do enough research and/or ask the questions on this forum.
So I got hosed and wasted alot of money trying to get to where I thought I wanted to be. But o well I'm getting wiser. Do most fields rent out HPA tanks? |

The field I play is switching all their rental markers to HPA (mostly Tippmann 98Cs). When I have had a tank malfunction, they have taken my tank for security and given me an HPA tank for the day (I did pay for the refills.) |

Most fields will have HPA tanks for rent. Sure they will be small 45/3000 steel tanks, but they work.

Yes the key words there are they work. Small is ok just to get through the day.
I will fix what I got and the next time my tank goes down I'll look to rent one then. Hopefully Crossfire can fix my problem today. Nice they are only an hour away from me. |

Well, my field will check to see that your tank is still under test. I do like my 90/4500 Nitro Duck...mainly because it was cheap 'cause no one wanted a tank that large. Got it with 3 years left on the test for $85. I then spent another $65 on it to install the Crossfire valve (converted from cradle mount) |

Let me run this by you guys a minute. Got this tank online due for hydro (my mistake I know now) took it to a local paintball shop for hydro. They called me the next day and said there had been a problem with the tank. They broke the reg off inside the tank. So now its useless. They tell me that whoever had it apart before put too much locktite on it when they put it back together and they couldn't do anything for me on another tank. So I take the tank and broke reg and leave. I proceed to remove the broke half from the bottle messing up the threads a bit. Then I take it to crossfire to see if the can fix it. They can't and condemn the tank for "Exposure to fire and damaged threads". Now I know that the guy who broke the reg in the first place charred the neck and in turn got the tank condemned even before I messed up the threads. Now I want to take the tank back to the local shop and tell them what they did but I wonder what retribution I have against them.
Sorry its so long but I am really frustrated about the whole thing and need to know what to do next. |

personally, and dont take this wrongly, but I hope to never ever play within your vicinity sir.... seriously if your tank ruptures or the reg becomes seperated your not only endangering your self but everyone else, if I dont regularly inspect the brakes on my car and repair replace as needed and I can't stop in time because I ran Junior over playing in the street its no different than me killing junior because my tank just became a missile nuff said, rant off.... back to this gents troubles.... buying used tanks is a great way to get some good HPA stuff for cheap.... as always though its a gamble and sadly you got the band hand this round, ouch, I've found looking for used ones off the paintball forums like the nation and the like or craigslist is the best way, i avoid the bay these days, cool thing about the paintball forums or craigslists you can find people easier that are local to you and that way before any money exchanges hands your able to hold and test the item beforehand, just a hint whatever you do try and get a working nitro tank, I think once you have found one you will be plesantely surprised at the way it operates overs co2, again good luck
