CAT 5e Cable.

I can use this to connect my Xbox 360 to my router, right?  I know next to nothing when it comes to computer hardware and such.

Thought so, but I was not sure after reading RJ45 and seeing that it was a "patch cable".  Also, would it be worth the extra $30 to get a CAT6 cable instead?

No, the only difference between CAT5e and CAT6 is the transfer rate. CAT5e transfers at 100Mbps and CAT6 transfers at 120Mbps. But because most routers, and computers only have 10/100 ports the extra bandwidth is not used because the cables can transfer faster than the router/computer can.

The spec only allows up to 328 feet.  Anything more and you run the risk of signal loss.

Halo 3 was what finally pushed me over the edge.  When I got my LCD, I rearranged my room.  I haven't had XBL since because my old cable wouldn't reach, but I didn't have anything that I really felt like playing anyway, so I didn't bother buying a cable.

CAT5e only will have acceptable SNR up to a little over 300ft before you need a signal repeater to boost the signal. This is why fiber is the bomb.

So who has a house big enough to require a 500ft cable to run from upstairs to downstairs? I suggest you either move the router closer or quit being a noob and run the cable correctly through the attic and down a wall.

Category 5 E Cable (enhanced) Same as Category 5, except that it is made to somewhat more stringent standards (see comparison chart below). The Category 5 E standard is now officially part of the 568A standard. I don't know where you're getting 100 and 120 as maximum speeds, but that's not right. If CAT5 and CAT6 are incapable of much over 120, why are there gigabit ethernet cards available at the local Walmart? Why do mobo manufacturers put gigabit ethernet ports on their boards if no ethernet cables will support it?

your the noob my mom says it will look bad or something and so it won't work and since I bought my A-5 I don't have any money for a wireless (I don't even get allowence)
