Can't honestly say. My opinion is biased because windows is what I have grown up using for my whole life, so I have very little experience with mac.

Yeah, that's why industry professionals use macs for video, design, sound and CGI....cause they can keep their family photos in iPhoto. |

For the same price as a Mac, you can build a non-OSX only PC for half the price with the same or better specs. You can upgrade as you please. You have the capability to have many more features than you can put in a PC designed by Apple for OSX. You can attach pretty much whatever the hell you want to it (with varying levels of risk) and, with the exception of OSX-exclusive software, install whatever the hell you want on it.
You can play any PC games you want, and play them to their full potential (all Macs except for the Pro don't take too kindly to addons, I don't think even the Pro can support most graphics cards, though I could be wrong). You can throw a blu-ray drive on there if you want (you have to wait until Apple releases one for Macs before you can throw one on), and have pretty much the same potential for movie and music editing as you do with Mac-specific programs. HOWEVER: Windows is not as reliable. It takes a lot of skill to set it up so that the least amount of processes are happening in the background (due to the piss-poor way the system was designed). Costs a boatload of money for the full version of each edition of Windows. Linux isn't the most compatible OS and takes much fumbling with drivers to work. On Macs, you get a gorgeous case with an operating system that was designed to work flawlessly with the hardware they offer. You have editing programs available to you that are tailored exclusively for your OS and are used by thousands of professionals world-wide. You have no need to worry about viruses because even if they could, virus writers don't care enough to write problem software for OSX anyway. You get a system that's difficult to screw up and works without error out of the box. You have the potential to run a computer, mouse, and keyboard with only a single wire (new iMac + wireless peripherals thanks to built-in bluetooth). Programs that you buy for Macs are pretty much guaranteed to work because I think you need to clear a program with Apple before putting it up for sale. You can put any OS you want on the computer. HOWEVER: They charge much more money than anything on their computers is worth. You cannot run the programs of other operating systems to their full potential due to the hardware restrictions. Even aside from games, OSX has a much more limited program selection (just pointing it out, even though it doesn't matter to over 90% of their consumers). Good luck upgrading without either: A) Sending your comp in and paying a ridiculous service charge in addition to the price of the parts. B) Buying a new Mac. or C) Buying a Mac Pro, which starts expensive and is still quite limited in addon selection. Though, like everyone else, I don't know every thing you can do with every system, it seems like everything you can do on an Apple PC, you can do with a PC you build yourself. Aside from the immense amount of processes that usually end up running in the background in Windows, owning a Mac really isn't better than owning a non-OSX PC for a user who knows how to handle his computers. TL;DR Mac PCs are no better to have than non-OSX PCs, except when compatibility is an issue. If you're a gamer, stay away from Macs. If you don't care for games, are willing to pay extra for some more convenience in hardware and reliability in your operating system, go Mac. If you're into music/video editing, it depends on what programs you need compatibility with. |

It comes down to personal preference and what you are getting it to do.
Useless bickering on which is best is boring. |

Spec out some laptops, and you'll see they're pretty comparable. Haven't looked at the desktops.
My MBP runs games pretty damn well under boot camped XP
Seems like opinion to me.
Again, boot camp, etc.
I've yet to find a replacement for a Windows program that isn't at least as good as the Windows version, IMO. They're quite often free as well.
Seems to me like owning a PC is no better than owning a Mac, since you can run OS X (better) or Windows (if needed/for games). The only reason I wouldn't buy an Apple machine is if I was on an extremely tight budget, or I already had one and was building a PC as a secondary machine (gaming rig, server, etc). |

Dual booting would be paying extra to negate the positive effects of the mac. |

it's what you grew up with. that's the point. it's learning something new, and it's the same as if a mac user switched to PC, they'd be a little confused. We used iMac's for Film Study, and they were easy enough for me to use, and I love the programs, and I'll be buying a MacBook Pro in June before I leave for college. Love em. To clarify, I own a PC right now |

My impression from the commericals seems to be that mac owners are portrayed as trendy elitists who think that they are better than the loveable pc owners.
Wikipedia seems to agree. |

The whole boot camp argument is exceedingly lame. You've got your programs spread out over 2 OS's, and you've got to reboot to get back and forth. You've also got to pay for another operating system (legally) and you still can't upgrade your hardware like you can with a gaming PC.
I don't know about the program choices for Mac, but I love all the tweaks and things you can get for XP. As long as you're not a noob, it's reliable and very customizable.
