I was in sudden need of a small drywall project last night, and realized that I do not own a drywall saw. Grr. Fear not - I dug into my ridiculously large collection of useless and silly knives, and found just the thing. Here it is (after drywall cutting): And now it is back in the box, probably never to be used again. Edited by Susan Storm - 18 February 2008 at 11:08am |

Hmm, were you cutting 5/8th thick fire grade drywall? IT seems to be a bit too much knife for drywall.

That drywall didn't want none. Although, I find keyhole saws to work better than anything else out there (except maybe a fresh-out-of-the-box razor)... but judging by the gypsum marks on that knife... |

I whould have painted my face blue and used my KuKri and sword to hack the drywall to bits.

In case I wasn't clear - I used the serrated back edge to cut. Cutting holes in drywall with smooth blades just annoys me (and kukris are too fat up front for easy entry). It did the job quite well, although certainly not the smoothest hole I have made. But the drywall sure backed down when I whipped out the badass blade. (And now I have a rather ghetto-esque hole in my basement ceiling) |

Yeah. There's an art to cutting drywall holes with smooth blades. It's all about your angle and pressure. Personally, I favor keyhole saws. put the blade where you want to start, and bam, hit the back of the handle and start the massacre. |

My Dad used to do drywall for a living, and still does alot of it because he feels the need to improve every house he lives in. And he always uses a razor. I've tried to reach his level of mastery but alas, the pupil has failed to surpass his teacher.

Thanks. Now I feel like an idiot. I own such a router, and it even has a specific drywall attachment. But no, I had to go running to my Box o' Bowie. Oh well. Maybe next time I will remember. |
