I'm curious. When did it become unacceptable to be a man?
I'm talking about bravado, uncouthness, hairy, macho man. This is all brought about by TV. Suddenly TV doesn't want Tom Selleck, they want Ashton Kutcher, A manboy who has the mentality and looks of a 15 year old boy. Suddenly I see all my single firends gelling their hair and shaving they're chests so they can be smooth like the girls they are trying to pick up. When did this become right? When did the age of being a real man end? Why is it that i can no longer just wear pants and a T-shirt without getting looks like I just walked in from the wilds. Now all these creatine ingesting, hair gelling gym monkeys are wearing neon flip-flops and clamming pants. Why is it unfashionable now to be a woodsman? Never in my life had i heard of someone not wanting to go camping cause there were no showers or movies and didn't want a snifter of bourbon. Until recently. There's no real rhyme or reason, or even a story, to go with this rant. I just want answers. I want to know why it is becoming more fashionable for young men to act like manly women, in order to get noticed or be considered a clean part of society. I tell ya, it's a crying shame when, all of a sudden, there is no line between the genders or any code of conduct, either. /rant |

I understand exactly what you're talking about. And lol @ "creatine ingesting. Couldn't be more true...
I honestly prefer to stay clean shaven, but I don't shave my chest hair (the very little that I have). I prefer to shave my facial hair though (again, I don't grow much to begin with). Oh, and not wanting to go camping just because there are not showers is pretty ridiculous. |

Its really not that unusual. Trends change. You can be a part of it, or not be a part of it.

I'm a hairy beast of a man. Thankfully the gf couldn't care less, cause without going completely hairless, I'd just look patchy if I tried to wax my chest or something.

It amazes me when people say they are going camping and they have a pop up camper trailer and they are plugged into electricity. To me, camping means a tent, sleeping bag, and a fire. You shower when you go home.
I dont know why its cool to be a manly women right now. But I definitely dont like it. |

Damn Thor, you're right.
Let's go camping, show off our chest hair, and kill us some animals to eat. And let's call Tom Selleck and Burt Reynolds to go with us. Possibly even Sean Connery. And bring the Scotch. Edited by ThatGuitarGuy - 10 June 2008 at 9:25pm |

What's wrong with it? I like being clean and clean shaven. I get my haircut every other week,
trim everything no matter what, and wash my hands more times than I can
count a day. The one time I go camping a year, we go with about 4
different families in RV's otherwise I would never go. Not showering
for 3,4 days is disgusting. I don't know why people like you get angry
because some people like to maintain cleanliness or dress decently for
different occasions. I'm sure no one is looking at you funny for
dressing like that in casual situations, but why not dress in
presentable clothes when your going out in public? It doesn't have to
be fancy, just something decent.
My dad is a hairy beast and once I start getting chest and back hair, I am definitely getting it waxed. I hate that, and most of the girls I talk to don't like it either, so why not just get it done? And I go tanning and stuff all the time with girl friends, sometimes to tan or other times just to chill with them...and there's more hot girls at a tanning salon than you can imagine, and they straight up flock to you since your one of the only guys in there and they know your taking the initiative to look decent. Make fun of me all you want, but it's not rocket science and it works. Don't get me wrong, manly man stuff is fun, but you have to know when it's ok and when to chill out. I like riding quads, shooting stuff, and doing that sort of stuff as much as the next guy, but there is a time and a place for everything. Edited by notXXscared - 10 June 2008 at 9:31pm |

Leave it to Dye Playa to defend the camping with RV's...What's wrong with going camping for a week and not showering? Everyone is doing it(Well when they're not with you). I don't see how it is disgusting, especially when all you are doing for the most part is hanging around. Jump in a lake or a river...damn.
Also you go tanning?...lol. I'm sure the girls flock to you because they're not afraid of homos and can take you shopping and get a man's perspective. Nothing wrong with dressing decent when going out(I'm sure Thor agrees) but this metrosexual stuff is ridiculous. Edited by jmac3 - 10 June 2008 at 9:47pm |

I see absolutely no problem with camping in a tent for a week without a shower or electricity. In fact, many of my weekends during the summer involve me living in a tent during reenactments and camping trips.
I love it. If everyone around you is the same way, what difference does it make? Camping in an RV? Stay the hell home. Waxing your chest? Hand in your man card sissy, it isn't necessary. I've never, EVER thought about doing that, and still managed to snag a girl that thought I was worth getting married to. In fact, any woman worth keeping will appreciate a guy for who he is, not because he shaves his chest or dresses like a hollister mannequin. I'm with you on this one- have been for a while. The only comfort I have is getting a solid chuckle out out of watching gurlie men struggle and worry what everyone else thinks about them. |

I shave my chest, but mostly because my chest hair comes in all scraggly and gross, AND it makes my chest/abs look better.
Besides that, I don't think I do anything girly. I like camping, hiking, etc. And it makes me laugh that you say anyone that takes creatine is a girly man. Ignorance is fun. |
