Bah. You'd think such a simple thing wouldn't affect me so much, but lo and behold. I just got back from seeing Kung Fu Panda*, and it was just the right kick to get me thinking. I've long wanted to study a form of martial art, but have been rather undecided on which. Chinese martial arts, or what we have come to (rather inaccurately) call "Kung Fu," may just be what I'd be interested in. It seems like it's something you could learn by yourself, with a little bit of research, focuses on the flow of "chi energy" (breath), is good stress relief and a way to excercise.

So in conclusion, it's rather surprising what can inspire me to do something. It just takes the right Muse. I guess this thread could be a discussion on martial arts or silly animated movies. Have at it, and good day.

*I didn't really want to, but my friend works at an Imax theater, and said we could watch it for free. Couldn't turn it down. It was a good, light-hearted movie, but I wouldn't really recommend it. It was a pretty kiddy movie (well, duh), but it kept me entertained. Pretty solid voice acting, though I wasn't really impressed with Jack Black's work.

YAY!

Yeah, I'll probably lose it by tomorrow, but one of these days I'll follow through with SOMETHING.

i did a combination of tae kwon do and BJJ for five years, I've just now stopped because I'm leaving for college.  Don't try and teach yourself...and don't think billy blanks can either.  If you wanna learn, you're gonna have to pay.  Find the local martial arts academies in your area, watch a few sessions, price it out, and make a decision.  Don't go olympic style TKD either.  If by tomorrow, you actually want to follow through, say something, and I'll explain a little more.

Here I thought this would be a legit movie thread.  I'm watching Goodfellas right now for my film study final. Awesome movie

Like I said, feel free to discuss movies if you wish. :)

But yeah. My mom is actually kinda pressing me to do this. She says it's a good venue for my mind to go. She's kinda hippie-ish, so she supports it. I may just have to follow through. If I'm still interested on the morrow, I'll be sure to say so.

I don't care what movie it is, if it's on an Imax screen, it is amazing.

2x amazing if it's on the Omnimax in Portland, it's a dome, the movie goes around you.

We were on like the fifth row, in the center. Amazingly close, yet far enough to not hurt your neck or head. It's like looking into a giant, awesome window to a world you'll never be in...

Imax > me.

I'd like to learn non-martial art, advanced fighting techniques like Krav Maga and Systema. Add drunken boxing and some wushu + kung fu to that and I would be complete.

Well, I'm hoping I could find a reputable "dojo" to learn some form of kung fu in. Why am I interested in kung fu all of the sudden? Well, I'd love to get into a combat sport (martial arts, fencing, etc.), and find some sort of stress relief/"find inner peace" kind of deal, and kung fu seems to offer both. I'd try tai chi, but that's just too peaceful, and I'm very interested in judo, but there's no "inner peace" involved.

It's not really "Hulk 2." It's just a different version of "The Hulk." Has nothing to do with the other movie.
