So I am surfing an earthquake at the moment while typing this and holding my monitor so it doesn't fall of the desk.

You heard it heard first.

http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/118-34.html

It was a 5.8.

I love this place. We find out about stuff before the Associated Press.

Anything break or was it not that big?

Living in the Midwest, I really can't fathom what an earthquake must be like. I imagine it would be pretty terrifying.

It was a decent size but since I live within 20 miles of the San Andres fault line we expect this to happen and plan accordingly.

You go up and down more so than shake. From where I am it wast too bad. Nothing fell but while holding the computer monitor I was thinking about steadying the computer. Priorities, right?

Now I'm curious. Is there any place on the planet that's not threatened at some point in the year with a massively destructive force of nature? Tornado, hurricane, earthquake, volcano...

Im in California right now and I just felt it too. My desk which is like attached to the bookcase and probably weighs about 500 pounds started to shake and I wondered how I could have hit it that hard with my leg lol. ANd then it hit me...it was an earthquake. I made a beeline for our grandfather clock, I didnt want the weights inside to shatter the glass. It was pretty cool though

That's one thing I've always wanted to do. Just get out in the middle of an open field during a massive earthquake.

Yeah, I know they happen from time to time, but they're so infrequent and weak, they don't really compare to CA or Japan.
