that's my point, it is the cheapest crap, Other ammo Federal, Winchester, Remington, are at $11 a box for the same grain bullet.  Lake City you can't find. all on back order. Wednesday, the local gun shop got 5 cases of .223 in and by 3 pm, it was all gone.

So, who here thinks that the arms manufacturers secretly give lots of money to Democrats?

The Cooper Arms guy foolishly supported Obama in public, but it sure seems like Democrats are good for their business.

Bruce,

the price of ammo has been going up steadily the last 3 years, material to make bullets in high demand (copper and brass), ammunition production being diverted to the military, now panic buying has had a huge impact to the price as well.

You can reload steel case, easier to do with larger calibres like X39. Need to punch out the anvil on the primer pocket and put in your own primer.

Should come up to canada for some ammo... I pay 8.99 a box for PMC 55 grain and AE 55 grain BTFMJ. Same price for the 50 grain hollow points

Cases of 7.62X39 for 300 bucks... but its all czech corrosive.

Actually, some steel casings are now boxer primed, so it's not even an extra step anymore Andy. Depends on the company though.

I wouldn't really know that. All the steel case Ive seen is either Czech surplus or wolf that somebody illegally imported since it has not been approved for use in Canada yet...

Wolf .223 gums up my AR's bolt and locking lugs with the lacquer.  Itfails to lock the bolt to the rear when the last round has been fired.  Wolf .308 is decent, good plinking ammo, but gums up my M1A. Wolf .45 is great stuff but dirty too.  but prices keep climbing...

Really?   Me and the guys I shoot with have fired nearly 10,000 rounds of assorted Wolf ammunition in three different calibers.  No problems.  You know, you should clean your firearm every 500 to 1000 rounds anyway.  Wolf is fine.

Ouch. Being a poor college student I haven't been buying ammo often(well, a box or two of those $3.00 per round sabot slugs) in the past few years. I thought it had come down a bit from a year or two ago. For a while there you couldn't get Wolf X39. We used to have a mini-14 that didn't like Wolf. The red laquer would gum up the firing pin and I'd get weak hits on the primer. I probably still have a few hundred rounds kicking around, mostly 55 grain FMJ with a few 62gr and 55 gr HP's since I was hoping to build an AR one day. It's Wolf, winchester white box and PMC.

PMC 6.5X55 used to be about $12 per 20. If 5.56 is like that today, ouch.

A while ago I picked up some Hansen Ammunition from Yugoslavia, but the cases appear to be IMI. It's lead core with a copper jacket and my SKS seems to shoot it significantly better than wolf or any other surplus. The price was competative, but I haven't seen it since.

Boo hoo, poor little bank accounts. $7 for a box of .223.

Here it runs at $25.

True this is for S&B boxer primed 55grain FMJ, but that's all that's on the shelves.

And not even for long.

This is why you buy it 5,000 rounds at a time when it's cheap noobs.

"Cheap" ammo isn't even that cheap anymore. 7.62x54R is running $80/440 for the cheap combloc surplus. What's worse is that it's all steel core which means an hour drive for me to get to a range that will let me shoot it (outdoor).
