That is because the real price of your ticket will be the hike in your insurance rate.

They are going nutz with driving laws up here now. If you get caught speeding and you are under 21, your license gets like suspended for 30 days. And getting caught without a seat belt is like $1000 ticket.

20+ tends to be mandatory court date, so you'll have to show up anyhow to pay it.

Good, maybe people will buckle up then.

I think we could use some stricter driving laws in the U.S.

Ok, so I can pay an attorney $411 to represent me or go myself and play the poor college student act.

Agreed, I'm in favor or raising the driving age to 18.

Isn't that technically a felony?

I believe here in MO 15 over is considered a felony.

an attorney will get it reduced to something like excessive exhaust noise so that it will stay off your record, you wont get any points on your license, and your insurance wont go up.

this will also make your ticket itself more expensive as well. (least it does around here.)

Speeding laws vary GREATLY state by state, do your own research on it. A Google search can yield good results, just double check them.

Talk to friends, family, or neighbors. Ask them what they did when they got a speeding ticket. A lawyer, I feel personally, is unnecessary for a traffic ticket. If you do take it to court, dress very nicely, remember to answer any question the prosecutor or Judge asks with either a yes sir or no sir. DON'T give any unnecessary details about the stop.

Me and my friend got pulled over for 83 in a 55 in CT coming back from a concert. She showed some cleave, and when the cop came back with the ticket, he was like the speeding ticket would have been ~$350, but I put you down for obstructed vision (graduation tassels on the mirror) which was a $75 ticket. Moral of the story:
a. your looking at a $300+ ticket
b. it pays to have boobs

When I lived in CT, cops never gave me a hard time. They didnt care about my burnout next to there station, the racing or speeding.... not that I did any of that.

Dye, I don't know if you're at all familiar with the new laws that took place August 1 around here now, but 20 over is now reckless driving and kids our age can get their licenses suspended.

Moral #3: Keep it at 19 over in high risk areas.

Bounty, you live in NC, pay a lawyer to use your prayer for judgment. You'll be getting a lot of letters in the mail soon, and they'll mention it.

NC laws FTW.

20 over gets you suspended in CT now?  When I lived there 20 over was the slow lane.
