For $25? Where?
I was planning on getting the $30 upgrade to professional for students. Probably not gonna do it anytime too soon though. |

Had the RTM for about 2 weeks. I love it. No problems whatsoever. Microsoft definitely got this one right.

Ordered my copy last week (also for the student price) and it's available for DL now. I'm hesitant to install it on my laptop or desktop though because if I run into issues with any of my applications, that will likely cause me to fail a class and I can't have that. I'm dying to try it out though so I'll probably roll the dice and see what happens. Hopefully XP mode works as advertised just in case. I got 64-bit Pro specifically for that feature and because it was the same price as the lower editions when buying as a student. Pretty shweet deal if you ask me. I'm expecting great things.

From my experience with the RC, problems with XP-compatible programs are few and far between. The only one I had trouble with was Diablo II, and installing the newest patch fixed it.

I'm using same RTM, whatever that means. Either way so far so good, much better than XP or Vista.

RTM is the release version. Microsoft sends RTM out to their partners before they actually press the CDs.
BTW: Burger King Japan is excited about Windows 7. Link. |

Yeah, exactly. Since Microsoft often distributes betas and RCs (release candidates) throughout the development cycle of their products, they use the "RTM" moniker to differentiate that the copy they are distributing is the final release, the same copy that will be sent to CDs.

Yeah I follow that, I've just always heard the term gold master because of friends in the gaming industry. Same thing, different name

Yeah, it's a terminology thing. Microsoft seems to use the term gold standard when they are talking about printing Windows CDs, but when they are discussing the actual software, its RTM.

I'm going to a Microsoft press conference in November at which I'll be picking up a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for free.
Now I'm debating whether or not to do a full clean install or just upgrade. |
