Yeah, I'm wondering where the outrage is of tax dollars being used to clean it up, not the company responsible. I don't have a source for this, just what I've heard, so I could be wrong.

Well, they could wait for the investigation on the cause of the incident to come to a conclusion to find out exactly who is responsible, then go through all the legal hoops, and then start cleaning it up with that money.  OR they could clean it up now and try to limit the effects of this disaster and worry about fining the persons responsible afterward.

Agreed. Why let it become uncontrollable then do something about it after finally finding blame.

I'm ticked that they say it could take 90 days to stop that freakin leak!! If you can't efficiently fix, or clean up your problems, you shouldn't be there!
In the broad spectrum of bad ideas I think this would have to rate somewhere between running with scissors and sticking your pecker in the toaster.

Doesn't matter if they do charge the company responsible for the leak.  If they do, they'll just do what the chemical companies do up and down the appalachian mountains.

1. Declare Bankruptcy
2. Government Cleans up the mess
3. Come back under different business name
4???
5. Profit

So how much experience do you have in deep sea drilling and stopping leaks from such operations?

Exactly.

BP has contacted the DoD to see if the Navy can come up with something to get down to the leak and engage the valves which are intended to be activated in the event of a rig fire.  The reality is that if these is a way to do this, it will not be anything like simple.

Seems hypocritical to tell the oil companies that they can't operate because accidents happen, yet to use petroleum products to do, well, a whole lot.  Not to mention the method simply wouldn't work.

The problem is that those valves are 5,000 feet down with nothing connecting them to the surface any more.

I think a lot of the leaking fuel will be burned off, though.  I guess it's better than letting it hit the shores down there.

Linus, I'm just saying that if they're gonna be there, they should know how to better clean up an accident like that. Of course accidents happen, I don't fault them for that, but I feel they should have a better plan to stop the leak...

Good point.

Car companies should start planning better for freak accidents too.  No one should be allowed to drive again until these accidents are stopped.
