No, I'm not suggesting we actually put landmines there, but maybe just the signs and a few dummy mines...

No just the Russians, Italians, the French...oh and the U.S., There are people still being killed by land mines dating back to the Second World War, not to mention Viet Nam, Cambodia, Afghanistan ( the Russians left alot over there and some disguised as toys).  If I am not mistaken, land mines were a popular choice of assassination in some African countries, bury it in a drive way of the victim and wait.

And it also won't work.

Mines only work when people don't know they are there. Otherwise you send in Sappers and get them to disarm them.

Unless they are guarded all you need is time and a gardening trowel. (some information on landmines helps).

Then you've got annoyed illegal immigrants, armed with explosives.

I say we make a big river along the border and maintain a healthy population of less-friendly creatures like alligators. We can help fix our illegal immigration problem and simultaneously help the environment. It's a win-win situation unless you're mexican.

As has been discussed, Mexico has nothing to gain by having their productive citizens escaping their country to go somewhere else.

Also - that whole national pride thing works well when you're not in a country with poverty, starvation and a massive drug problem.
