    Posted: 18 December 2010 at 2:47am
Hey guys. I'm new here but I've been prowling the forums for a while. Before I start - yes I did use the search bar.

I received an X7 Phenom and a new 48/3000 Ninja tank for my birthday the other day. I screwed the tank on and had no problems firing a few test shots. After screwing/unscrewing the tank a few times I noticed a small leak coming out of the pinhole on the bottom of the ASA, and it got worse the more times I screwed the tank on.

It looked like the ASA was cutting the oring on the tank a little bit as there were slight cuts in it that werent there before. I replaced the oring and screwed/unscrewed the tank a few times to test; sure enough there were small cuts on the new oring and the same small leak. The leak gets worse the more times the tank is screwed/unscrewed from the marker.

I have now replaced the oring 3 times and am having the same problem. I googled this and found nothing. My local shop owner gave me a temporary solution (placing an oring on the ASA first then screwing on the tank) but I want a permanent fix (the oring I put in first keeps getting crushed/out of shape and doesnt help after). I have taken the grip off and inspected the orings on both ends of the copper air hose, both ends are fine. The problem doesn't seem like it should be a result of that hose however as, like I said, the leak is coming from the small pinhole on the bottom of the ASA.

Is this small leak normal? I don't get this issue when I screw the tank onto my 98C (there is a pinhole on that ASA too but in a different place). When I screw on my CO2 tanks to my Phenom I don't get this problem. I just can't figure it out.

Should I call Tippmann and ask for a new ASA? Can anyone shed some light on this??

Thanks in advance :)

I would definately say call Tippmann. If the o-ring is getting cut by the threads inside the ASA that's definately a manufacturing defect.

If you wanted to give a home fix a go, I'd say pull off the ASA and cram some steel wool in there and twist. Smooth down the crown of the ASA threads a bit. Should work for a temporary fix, just make sure you clean any steel wool bits out of there before airing it up.
