Allied Army, D-Day 2012

I started attending D-Day back in 2002, but each year
is a new experience, so even first time players have nothing to worry about. Register early (hopefully with one of the allied units), bring a water bladder and some
extra long tent stakes, if you're planning to bring a
tent that is.

Anyone who is coming as part of a group might also
check with 'Crazy Debbies Fireworks if they're looking
for a heavy duty tent and if you're bringing a camper
you better get in touch with the Bunker before all the
camper spots are rented out. BTW, they also have a
few upgraded Class A spots available as well.

Folks who are looking to camp get to use the showers,
just be aware the water smells like sulfer. That said,
once you dry off the smell goes away.

With regards to food, there's two places in the vendor
area where you can sit down and enjoy a good meal.
The D-Day Cafe serves a decent breakfast and good
hamburgers, while Phil's Grill is better known for their
brats, steaks, sweet tea and ice cream smoothies.

DXS is the prime sponsor this year and they'll be offering two grades of paint. Sorry, I don't have the prices yet.

For those coming for the first time, try and keep these
hints in mind.

1. You will be worn out well before the end of the event,
so if you're not fit now's the time to start getting yourself in better shape.

2. If you'd like to do more than follow the pack, let the
person in charge of the unit you join know that so they
can find a job best suited to your experience. If you're
bringing someone who doesn't plan to play, ask the
folks in charge of your unit if there isn't something they can do to help.

3. If you want to join one of the special units, like the
US Rangers, you need to be there by Wednesday so you
can take part in the Obstacle Course. Don't worry you'll
pass regardless of the shape you're in, but don't use
that as an excuse for not working out.

4. If you or your group has a tank, you'll pretty much
be able to write your own ticket when it comes to which
side wants you. Both sides have not just Tank units,
but also Tank Killer units. On the Allied side that'd be
their 899th Tank Destroyers, not sure what the Germans
call theirs. Both sides also have a Airborne Units, but
don't worry no one has to actually jump to qualify.

5. This event is a multi-day event. By that I mean they
start holding 3-4 hour long mini sceanrios on the Monday
before the main event. At present they're looking at
making one or more of these events count towards the
final score, so unless they decide not to do that the
more events your side wins, the better the odds are that
you'll also come out as the overall winners.

6. If you've always wanted to take part in a night event,
there's one on Thursday evening that'll satisfy even the
most die hard player. Smoke, parachute flares and lots
and lots of paint, plus upwards to 2,000 players fighting over a two story church, a pair of strip malls and dozens of bunkers make this the ultimate night game
opportunity.

Because I've been asked to explain what various
units in the Allied Army do, I'm posting some of
the more unique units and what their missions are.

If you've got questions about any of these units,
or the others which make up our force, please let
me know.

502nd Military Police Company

Special registration/check-in: To borrow from the
Masons - 2b1 ask1. It's not really that cryptic, but
as you cannot buy a ticket that says 502 MPs on it,
contact Superdad and he'll tell you how to register.

O-Course required: No
Special Equipment needed: None
Engagement area: The MPs have always landed on
Utah beach with the Blackcats, the 2nd Armor, and
the 4th ID.
Description: The 502nd Military Police company is a
small (20 or so players max.) effective unit that stays
together both on and off the field. It has missions both
in and outside the game, and is very family friendly --
The unit was started by a dad and his 2 sons and now
includes another father/2 sons family as well as other
individuals. For the short history of the 502nd MPs, the
Company has been in the 2nd Armored Division chain
of command. For 2012 the MPs have been reassigned
to the SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary
Force) reporting directly to SAC (Supreme Allied
Commander)

OSS
Special registration/check-in: Must be 15 or older.
Also must be vetted by OSS Staff before registering.
O-Course required: NO.

OSS field training will be provided.
Special Equipment needed: Some. A combat loadout
list will be provided to the individuals selected.
Engagement area: Starting points vary but always
deployed behind enemy lines at game on. Will be
tasked with multiple mission objectives and with
covering the entire field.
Description: The OSS is one of the smallest Allied
units and operates along the lines of a LRRP Company
(as developed during the Vietnam war.) We provide
recon, intel, and QRF assets reporting directly to the
SAC. The OSS has a very high percentage of current
and prior military personnel and the attitudes within
the unit reflect that background – i.e. we have very
high expectations of our team members.


82nd Pathfinders
Special registration/check-in: Must be 15 or older.
O-Course required: Yes
Special Equipment needed: No.
Engagement area: Starting point varies. Will be
asked to cover the entire field.
Description: We don't know exactly where we would
be dropped, but once dropped, expect to work hard
and hump some of the toughest terrain at D-day
(Steep slopes covered with fist sized rocks covered
with leaves and areas of dense brush).
If you register with the 82nd or 82nd PF expect
missions and objectives to be anywhere on the 700+
acre field.
We will be outnumbered, surrounded and most
definitely behind German lines. We pride ourselves
on teamwork and out-of-the box thinking. Some
people call us a little goofy - and we are.
You'll experience some of the most intense paintball
you can imagine, while having a great time all week.
You'll get to meet lots of new friends. It doesn't matter if you're woodsball, speedball, or
milsim, there is a place for you.

I wanted to take this opportunity to point out
one of the aspects which makes the Oklahoma
D-Day Event unique.

At most scenario games people show up knowing
which side they're going to be on, but that's about
it. If they've been appointed as the General, they
know they'll be in charge and there are always a
few others who know they'll be the General's aids,
but beyond that the depth of either side is left to
be determined just before the game starts.

At D-Day, at least when it comes to the Allied side,
we've created 17 unique units, each represents a
unit which actually took part in the 1944 landings
in Normandy. Each is led by a seasoned player
who knew a year in advance what he'd be doing
as the horn sounds. As the CO of that unit, he's
also determined who his XO, S-3 and so on are.
If the unit is large enough, it's also been split up
into various Companys, again just as it was in
44.

Why does all this matter, afterall this is just another
paintball game? Well if matters because when you
have between 3-4 thousand players scattered over
close to 800 acres, you want to maintain some sort
of organization. You want to know where you need
to go as you come out of the dead zone and you
also want to know if that player on the right and left
of you is going to stick with you when you make that
charge on the enemy's position.

This is why D-Day is more than just a game. It's a
chance to take part in the largest event of its kind
and at the same time it's also an opportunity to see
what it was like to be part of the largest sea and air
invasion ever staged.

Once again, the Commonwealth will be hosting a military style full auto shoot at OK D-Day 2012.

The shoot will be held on Wednesday, June 13 and is open to everyone at OK D-Day 2012. It will start at about 9:30 AM and will end at about 2:30 PM. The convoy to the range will leave the Commonwealth compound at 9:00 AM, so don't be late. Please bring your own vehicle or make arrangements to ride with someone. You may also want to bring something to drink or eat. The rain date will be Thursday June 14.

This shoot is open to anyone 12 years old and older. Minors under 18 years old MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No Exceptions. Please don't ask if 11 years and 11 months is close enough, because it isn't. Have proof of age, just in case the question comes up. A legal guardian must be authorized by law and documented by the court to represent the minor in all decisions pertaining to the minor. The father of a friend or older sibling is not good enough. The father of a friend or older sibling holding a temporary legal guardianship document from a court of law is perfect.

For 2012, the cost to preregister is $85 and you have to buy the rounds on site. The preregistration fee allows you to shoot any of the weapons offered. Preregistration will close out on May 1. If you know you’re going to be there, go ahead and register. At the event, we will take all walk-on shooters at $100 each, cash only. Please try to bring exact cash. The cost of the rounds is extremely reasonable and offsets the initial registration fee. Rounds are cash only. You may not bring your own real steel or bullets, but you can show up and take all the pics and video you want, at no charge. This year, we are offering belt fed weapons and an AR50 .50 cal sniper rifle and we are trying to offer an M2 .50 Cal. HB. We do feature various household appliances, boats and cars for the shooters to blow up. Yes, I said BLOW UP.

If you wish to do any kneeling, squatting or prone shooting, bring some sort of pad.

There will be no off-hand or Rambo style shooting. Anyone found to be acting in an irresponsible manner will have their shooting day terminated, their rounds confiscated and they will be escorted off of the range, without a refund of any kind.
These are the prices for last year, but they shouldn't be too much different for this year. I will post up the current prices on belt fed rounds and loose rounds, as soon as I know them. Please don’t comment on whether you could buy the rounds cheaper than anyone else or that you were/are in the military and you had enough of shooting. This is the man’s living. If you have a Class III license, a couple of machine guns and 10,000 rounds at $.001 each, then lucky you.
