We'll, I'm back from Parris Island. However, it's three weeks earlier than I should have returned. It's pretty embarassing. I passed everything, did what I was supposed to do quickly, and the drill instructors usually left me alone, however many things in my life changed between the time I joined the delayed entry program and when I shipped, and I was too stupid to re-examine my direction in life. My grandparents who are like a second set of parents to me, never supported the idea, but I went anywayways, even though Grandma's getting alzheimers and Grandpa can barely take care of himself anymore let alone grandma and the house. He had a botched hip replacement that's only put him in more pain and limited what he can do even more than before, that along with his other shoulder wearing out(he can't lift his right arm up very high, he has no rotator cuff). And I've always been close by to help them out. I also received a surprise scholarship to any 4 year state school for scoring high on our state's standardized testing that's required for graduating high school. Then it should have become obvious that my recruiter was a scumbag by talking me into signing for an MOS I never wanted (just until an opening in the MOS I wanted appeared. Then we'll get you what you want ) Then of course, I wouldn't even get that MOS if I didn't graduate on time(flash foreward to coughing up blood on a ten mile hike, while your knee that you didn't really need a waiver for is screaming and your back with scoliosis of only 10 degrees according to what your paperwork says is messed up three weeks later. Wanna go to sick call for the cough? Can you say new MOS, 0311? Complain about your torn up knee or back? Can you say enlistment fraud?). Anywho, between guilt over abandoning my familiy and fear of a fraudulent enlistment discharge when i broke myself on the crucible or ending up with an MOS I really didn't want when I got dropped back for pneumonia, I sucked up my pride and tapped out in about the least embarassing way I could(meaning the platoon didn't have a clue until all my gear was on the quarterdeck getting inventoried) and ended up with a discharge for failure to adapt.

So that's my story. Now I'm a training day 45 washout sitting at home while my friends are at school and my platoon is getting ready for the crucible this week. I also lost my lisence while I was gone. I had Two speeding tickets before the age of 18. I appealed one, but paid it before I got my court date so I could ship on time. Funny how even though I told my recruiter about that ticket it doesn't appear on my police check. Also appearently Grandma developed some sort of nerve deseise brought on by stress(wonder why?) that has paralysed her face. Great homecoming.

So now I guess I'll go to a community college next semester and try to transfer to someplace that doesn't suck as soon as possible. At least now I know how to get stuff done and deal with crappy situations, so playing catch-up shouldn't be too bad.

I'm a tad confused. I've deduced you left for Europe to join some military establishment(which one?) and then, after a large amount of crippling injuries, you decided you couldn't handle it, and came home to a paralyzed grandmother. How close am I to the straight story?

Sorry about all that man......But if you still really want to go into the millitary(dumb question?) You can take your 4-years of paid college and get commissioned.

Sorry to hear about all that man, I really am. As my father is so fond of saying "Sometime you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you"

Meaning simply that sometimes our plans don't work out the way we hope. You've still got a shot at having a great future, don't let one negative expierence get you down too much. It happens to many of us at one time or another.

I understand how hard it must be for you to have left that way, but again, its nothing to be ashamed of or angered by. Expierences like this are like knife wounds....they hurt like hell for a while, but they heal eventually and all thats left is the scar and the story.
My uncle washed out of airborne training years ago, and he still made out just fine. Ended up retiring a full bird. The point is that 'washing out' of something like this didnt hamper his overall success, don't let it hamper yours either regardless of wether or not you're in the service.

On a lighter note, I lost your address, thats why I never sent you the PBmissions Picture CD. PM me again and I'll get it out to you ASAP. I felt really guilty about not getting it to you before you left.....you're in quite a few of the shots too.

I'll buy you a beer the next time we meet to sling paint. Just to show that I don't think any less of you, Noone does.

Good luck man.

But its close.

Paris Island is where the marines go to train. I don't think it's in Europe either.

Well at least I can rest easily that the world is the same today as it was yesterday.

Another conservative uber patriot that ran his mouth about liberals, and then didn't have what it took to serve his country. Rest easily that democracy hating liberals like myself were able to suck up injury and home problems to defend the country that scorns us.

You have a bright future as a conservative talk show host, republican congressman, or Fox News staffer.

Your country salutes you!

Since this thread is dying quickly, it deserves a hero bump. Let this be a lesson to all trash-talking wannabes. Before you run your yap about patriotism and valor, try it on first.

That stinks, sorry everything didn't work out. I hope things are better for you in the future. Good luck.

Here's a great Rednekk98 quote from the war protestor thread:

As for you 14 year olds who sit around playing video games and munching twinkies all day who suggest things like nuking the whole middle east or just seem to blindly support this war, see how you feel when you're ready to graduate highschool. The people I know who were like that freshman year right after September 11th are more concerned with smoking pot, drinking beer, and getting into a community college than fighting Jihadists. When I try to persuade them into talking with my recruiter, they aren't afraid to tell me so. So when you're looking at graduating, think about reaching down between your legs, grab that string and give it a good strong tug, then enlisting. I doubt more than a handful of you will.

Enjoy your Twinkie, hero.
