This story is a bit old, but I don't believe it has been posted here, so... http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=2925021&page=1 Apparently Jesus (as in God) returned some time ago, and He lives ourside Houston. Hence my question for the Christians on the board - have you been by to visit Jesus yet? When are you going? I am guessing this means the end of days is near - how are you changing your ways in preparation? Edited by Clark Kent - 25 March 2007 at 6:50pm |

Read further down - he specifically says that he is Jesus of Nazareth. Not sure where the antichrist part fits in, but there isn't any devil worship involved here. Same old some-thy-neighbor stuff as from Jesus first time around. EDIT - This article has more detail on the antichrist bit - apparently it's like the NEW New Covenant. Idiots... Anyway, the guy went from preaching, to proclaiming himself the apostle paul, to proclaiming himself the second coming. I guess Jesus has a case of indecision? However, tis the season. Hispanic people (no racist offense, but it's true) around here are very religiously superstitious, which translates to people like this man to $$$. Namely because 80% of the hispanic people from around here have deep roots in Catholocism, a religion where you follow the institution of the church closer than the religion itself. I knew of a man, for instance, who died, and his family was told at time of funeral that the priest would need monthly installments totalling up to several thousands of dollars to pray the man into heaven. And idealogy like that is common around here. Obviously everything this man says and does is complete blasphemy to the Bible itself-if they actually read their Bibles. |

First time around it took him until his 30s to figure it out. Is this really that different?
I don't think ANY American is in a position to mock anybody else for being "religiously superstitious" - Americans invented the modern televangelist. Fellow on TV says "give me $20 million or God will kill me", and he hits the mark. Go figure.
That doesn't make any sense. How can Jesus blaspheme? He is God. But Jesus was called a blasphemer the first time around too (and killed for it), because he was blaspheming against what we now call the "Old Testament". It is clear that this time around Jesus is starting another new covenant - isn't it almost necessary that He has to "blaspheme" against the no-longer-New-Testament? Isn't that what He does?

Not sure how to respond to this. Jesus was a very common name at the time Christ was born and still isn't that uncommon outside of the states. Just having the name Jesus and thinking you are in fact him doesn't satisfy much, but he could very well be the one, no way to know.
Also, Clark, Jesus was not God, he was his son. |

Well... The Trinity is a complicated mess. To avoid turning this into a trinity theology thread, I would posit that we are both saying the same thing. :) |

My conclusion: Christians don't actually like Jesus. Every time somebody declares himself Jesus returned, the non-Christians of the world respond with a giant "what's on TV?" - But Christians go nuts with anger and indignation, invariably declaring Jesus a sinner and a fraud, and probably a tool of Satan. Shouldn't the churches of the world at least check? Doesn't this approach pretty much guarantee that Christians will miss the boat when Jesus DOES reappear? What are y'all waiting for? Choirs of angels, trumpets, and parted skies? That was what the old Jews were waiting for, and see where that got THEM! Jesus came in riding a donkey and tore down the temple. Didn't any of you read the Gospels? Didn't any of you learn anything from them? Christianity is a religion built entirely on the "gotcha" of Jesus Christ - what makes you think He isn't going to try the same thing again? Don't you think that His reappearance will be a test, or do you think that you are somehow special and He will give you special advance notice? But, given the consistent negative reaction to announcements of Jesus, I can only conclude that Christians don't really want Him to return. Christians love the IDEA of Jesus - witness how excited people get about Jesus on toast or in a tree - but the ACTUAL Jesus is too frightening to contemplate. I'm pretty sure that when he comes I'll know, I don't believe that he'll claim himself as jesus I'll just see him, we'll all just see him and know, it's time. Don't ask me how I would know I just believe I would. This seems to be a media stunt from a bored little man that has nothing better to do. |
