You may think you're hot stuff wearing Infidel t-shirts and whatnot. Guess what? Infidel means one who does not have faith in a single god. Not just the Islamic god Allah, but any sort of god whatsoever.
By calling yourself an infidel, you are essentially calling yourself an atheist. Christians aren't infidels. Leave that title to the people who deserve it. Edited by Tolgak - 24 September 2009 at 11:44pm |

I was looking through various online stores like Opsgear because that's what I do when I'm bored. There are a bunch of shirts that have the word on it. Considering the demographic that would wear this shirt, I did a quick look to find shirts that have "Christian Infidel" in them. It wasn't difficult to find a metric ass-load of these all over the internet. Then, just to be clear before posting my mini-rant, I looked up "infidel." "Christian Infidel" is an oxymoron. Yet, I hear so many people (especially within the uber-conservative population of my school) who I know are Christian nuts that call themselves proud infidels when debating our current conflicts. I'm tired of people being this stupid and just had to comment on it. |

Because you can be called an infidel if you believe in multiple gods. You've got God, Jesus, the Holy Ghost. 3 omnipotent entities, 3 gods. It would make sense for them to call you infidels. However, I don't think you understand the difficulty in translating the words they call us. It's likely that they never use the word "infidel" regarding Christians. It's only what translators like to use because "kafir" is the catch-all term regarding non-islamic people, and we don't have a synonym for it. The word "kafir" is commonly translated to "infidel" (a word with latin roots that translates to "unfaithful"), but the meanings are different. To call someone a kafir is to say they do not believe in a single god OR that Mohammed is a prophet. You're correct in taking the word kafir as both those qualifications have been met. If you want to be stubborn and tell me the Trinity is a single god, then you still meet that second qualification. To call someone an infidel, however, is to call him an atheist or a pagan. By calling yourself an infidel (and wearing it on your clothing) you are proudly proclaiming a lack of faith in the god you believe in. That's a grave sin, correct? |

They don't, it's not even a word in middle eastern languages and as far as I know, there is no direct translation. They may use "kafir," but it's NOT the same thing. |

Just because you're too slow to understand it, doesn't really make it lunacy. |

There's a difference between understanding and agreeing. For instance, I understand why FE and OS hate Obama, but I disagree with them. Edited by High Voltage - 26 September 2009 at 4:35pm |
