Been dragging my feet...

But I FINALLY have gotten the ball rolling on my NYS pistol permit. I was supposed to do it a few months back, I even remember starting a thread about it.

My 'in' this time is a guy I used to work with teaches a class in a neighboring county, which is acceptable for MY county. (New York is stupid- some counties require their own classes)

Some of you might be thinking "But- stupid, since you're laid off, isn't there anything better you could be spending your money on rather than this?"

Yes. Yes there is. But if I don't do something aside from worry about job hunting, resume padding, and stripping for cash at night, You'll read about me in the newspapers when I go insane.

At any rate, I've got the class tomorrow night, I've got the references lined up....the big part is going to be shelling out for the fingerprinting. Which amuses me.

- It USED to be done on paper and take several weeks to clear, since they'd wait until they had a batch of 20 or so to send out at a time. Cost used to be $90.

- Now its electronic and they know within 24 hours if you're a secret criminal. Cost has doubled.

Durp.

Oh well. With a few pieces lined up from my father in law when he retires, I need to get this damn thing straightened out and done.

In other gun-related news, ALL of my pieces from the flood have been cleaned and are functional. With the exception of my 1853 Enfield which was too long to fit in the safe. But the rest are back in action. Some of which (My smith carbine) actually works BETTER than it did before the flood. I can't explain it, but it does.

We found it.

....er....the bulldozer found it when it was cleaning out the stream bed.

The barrel resembles a boomerang and the stock is splintered to hell. That one really bums me out since it was the first gun I ever bought and used it for almost 15 years reenacting. Ah well. The fun is in the collecting right?

thinking the same thing...downstate ny its a royal pain in the butt to get a pistol permit...i'd always heard that it's easier to get one in the upper state counties

Now, is this to buy, or carry?

I thought it was easier to get a carry permit up north?

If it makes you feel better, I pretty much have to be put on al Al Quida hit list in order to be eligible for a CCW.

I'm also subject to one pistol a month, and each pistol needs its own purchase permit.

That system is horrible.

Tell me about it! Now with my C&R, I don't even have to wait for background checks to clear if I'm dealing with eligible firearms. Payment = shipped to my door!

Ok, being former military I am exempt from a safety course. I taught basic marksmanship for pistol and rifle (M16A2, M1911 and M9). I also was active shooting competition with service rifle. However, each county has it's own set of guidelines/rules before issuing a pistol permit. Nassau County requires an interview while Suffolk ( where I live) does not.  NYC?  fahgedaboutit, you are not getting a pistol permit while Mad Mike is King of NYC.
