Yeah, I saw that last night and thought to myself "Finally, a weapon you can actually believe someone would have." Vs the full auto Steyr Aug and the full auto FN FALs and Uzis we've seen before.

I dunno, all the military blockades and such setup all over the state? Seems believable to me. If I lived there, FIRST thing I would do is comb over all the areas I knew military folks had set up barricades and such and comb for their weapons. Now the unlimited ammo, different story..

Doesn't explain the full-auto Steyr.  I do find it hard to believe that all of those M4s are still working reliably.

I don't think the U.S. military uses anything other than M4s or M16s...

There are some SWAT teams in the USA who use some of those guns. The Secret Service used Uzis in the late 80s. I know a SWAT guy who runs an AUG. He doesn't like it as much as an M4 but says it is one of the best bullpups around.

Oh, I'm not saying there aren't *any.* I'm saying it's more likely you'd find M4s than AUGs.

(Not to mention the SWAT guy would probably be still alive Wink)

US border patrol has AUGs, but only a few, and none of those units are anywhere near GA. SS ditched their Uzis some time ago for MP5s. I have very reliable sources on that fact.

DEA and BATFE use M4s Colt SMGs and MP5s, Same goes for the Marshall Service and FBI.

But there is nobody out there using full auto AKs, FALs, or AUGs that would be a source of those weapons for the roving baddies in the show.

Tallen, yeah I did say back in the 80s. I don't know how the US gov works but the SA one doesn't throw kuch away. We're busy taking our gov to court ti prevent them destroying 3000 Lee Enfield SMLE rifles. Our park service has safes full of full auto R1 rifles that were retired from the SADF 35 years ago.

It isnt beyond belief that one or two Uzis have been moved to smaller, low budget police stations.

I know it is a little stretch of the imagination but so is stuff like Jericho were only bolt action rifles and pump shotguns were used by the good guys. Until the agent unlocked his stash of M4s.

Maybe in the zombie virus universe the Aug was more widely accepted , the FBI/SS never replaced the Uzi and the 86 machinegun ban Didn't foreign full auto guns. I mean it isn't this universe that has zombies....

You guys need to convince your gov't that selling those SMLE's and R1's (converted to semi of course) could be a rather large windfall in funding for your gov't.

The average R1 minus the upper receiver would sell to US suppliers at around US $450-$500 each and the SMLEs would probably sell to US suppliers at around US $200 each.

I'm pretty sure your gov't would like to clear the 600k USD rather than, you know, just throwing it down the drain.

Same fight we've been having for years over here over spent brass. At one point, the anti-gunners were trying to have spent brass from the military ranges shredded and dumped in landfills, not even recycled or scrapped, but just dumped.

Barrel ban?

Currently refurb R1's and FAL's are selling for around $1600 here. They would clean up. Hell collectors (the guys where who can own full auto) would snap them up as is!

The SMLE's are sought after by collectors, shooters and museums. Even though it is against the LAW for them to destroy historically significant weapons, they are probably gonna de-mill these with a cutting torch and dumb the remains in the ocean.

Yup.

There is a current court case trying to prevent this, but there is another government policy of not selling "military equipment" to civilians. The two are rather at odds with each other, but like I said, we are trying to get the bad law changed to a good one. It does also mean our supply of ex-mil .303B has dried up. It used to sell for R0.30 a round, while factory ammo is closer to R10 ($1).

Here anything that used to be a machinegun can't be imported. The ATFE changed their rules a while ago on importing parts kits (with demiled receivers) to also dissallow barrels for "assault weapons" from importation. You used to be able to get a demilled AK of FAL kit in good shape for $120, and build it on a US made semi-auto receiver with a few other US compliance parts. Now you can spend $400 on an AK kit, another $150 on a US barrel and it's a LOT harder to build one up cheap. I of course got my kit when they were $75 Big smile and should have a functional and 922r and AWB compliant AK in the safe in about a month.

Ah, that's why AK's are stupidly expensive now. I thought about buying one, but when I saw Romanians were going for 6-700 my jaw dropped. Rather spend the few extra hundred on a Arsenal.

And shy away from 5.45x39mm guns for the next while.

Buy any 5.45 you see. The BATFE have banned it from import due to some 5.45 "pistols" and the "steel core" ammo being AP. Even though it is soft steel and how the Russians build ammo.

It isn't banned banned, as I understand it they aren't approving import permits. They use the same tactic here.

Yeah, saw that the other day. Good news is, anything in the country is grandfathered in. Bad news is, they won't allow any more steel core surplus in which means the last "cheap" AK caliber is going to get expensive.

Personally, I think it's BS To call a center-fire rifle cartridge "pistol" ammo. 5.45 is going to blow through any ballistic vests the five-oh are using steel core or no. And it's not like an AK "Pistol" is actually readily concealable or even useful.

It's just like the surplus steel-core 7.62x25mm Tok that they banned. Even lead core Tokarev ammo will punch through type-3 ballistics vests no problem (it's a bottleneck cartridge after all) Show me any agency in the us outside the military who uses more than that for protection....
