Hmm, you want a 9800 pro most likely for your video card, about 1 gig of ram at most, 512 at the minimum for gaming, about 2.8 ghz processor, stuff like that. You can decide what kind of mother board you want ect. |

Right, which part of Dell sucks exactly? The part about getting a fairly decent price on a starter system that can be upgraded, the 24/7 tech support (which I hear is finally de-outsourcing itself unlike some companies), or the fact that it's not proprietary sealed-case crap? For someone not willing or able to build a computer, Dell is a pretty good option. Just get refurbished (meaning use your brain, not your wallet) when you buy and you'll be set. |

Dells suck, just build your own, and newegg is your best bet, or even pricewatch.com.

New Egg is the best, remeber don't buy retail, you'll save tons. OEM is the no box, no game bundle version(the games suck) I recommend AMD and Radeon, they have equal or better products and are WAY cheaper. I think you save about $100 buying a equevelent(sp) AMD to an Intel Anyway this is what I have and I run Doom 3 MAXED out fine(but I leave it at high) right now it's quite a deal(used to be highest end) Video Card (buy a better heatsink or polish the old one) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14 -102-268&depa=0 Gpu Cooler 1st ones mine second one is a fancier version that just came out http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35 -116-009&depa=0 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35 -116-013&depa=0 Proccesor http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19 -103-394&depa=0 A Great Sound Deal http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=29 -102-171&DEPA=0 Motherboard - Pretty sure this is what I have http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=13 -131-468&DEPA=0 RAM Almost what I got, exept from a different company http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20 -145-440&depa=1 Hard Drive 80GB do you need more? Just delete games when their old, or buy two, their kinda cheap, http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22 -145-049&depa=1 My case(mines black) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11 -156-139&depa=1 Or a Full Tower(really tall, more air, more cooling power) Funky Color http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11 -156-130&depa=1 My mouse- you can get a different color (Best mouse, from a good company) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=26 -104-150&depa=1 Best gamepad, kinda cheap http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=26 -127-206&depa=1 I am not sure if your into simulators, if you are PM for more info on joysticks Monitor, better deal than mine, I have a 15' Sylvania it's 1024x724 Max, but that means that you can tell your freinds you play all games at MAX resolution! And they look dam fine at max resolution http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24 -133-131&depa=1 Speakers 5.1- 5.1 is a must to enjoy games to the fullest. these are a good deal, but you can choose whichever you like- either put the rear speakers on a stand or like me, attatch to the back of your chair. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=36 -116-137&depa=0 Recommended games for your new rig Painkiller-each level very unique, tons of monsters, kinda like Serios Sam http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=32 -140-103&depa=0 Far Cry - Goes from AMAZING tropical island to a demonic lab http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=32 -138-116&depa=0 Doom 3- Best Game of the past decade dont believe the bad reviews http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=32 -138-116&depa=0 Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=32 -129-120&depa=0 DVD-CD RW In case you don't have one, soon all games gonna be DVD http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27 -120-150&depa=0 Power- Almost forgot http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17 -103-908&depa=0 Sorry for a badly organzied post, hope I helped Edited by MSG.Mobius |

What ever you do, don't skimp out on the RAM or Vid Card. I would say if you can afford it, get the 9800 XT, you won't regret it.
But me...I have a dell. |

The only real difference between a "gaming computer" and a "work" computer is the video card. At work i use a P4 2.4ghz with on-board video. All i have to do is bring my GeForce4 to the office pop it in and i can play any game.

Mobius, just so you know, you don't run Doom3 Maxed out fine. At all.
The Ultra setting is made for people with 512mb Video Cards. If you have a 9800pro or whatever you told him to get, there is no way you can max out the quality settings, and get good frame rates. No way. |
