A-5 all the way! 

one its a tippmann and your on a tippmann website. 2 the ion hasnt been out long enough to really test reliablity. 3 a-5 are just cooler and you dont have to worry about buying a loader, thats way im getting an a-5.  4 sp is ok i dont have anything against them, i just dont like the idea of the low/mid end gun.

then your friend did somthing to it..my vote goes a5 i mean ion is an amzing deal but i dont know if it reliable..the a-5 is relabile if ur using it for wood ball...it the marker of choice(or the 98c)

If you play woods then I'd get the A-5. I you play speedball then get the Ion.

both are great markers, but overall, I prefer the A-5, since there are so many uses for it. Great woodsball gun outta the box, was gonna buy 1, but i got tricked into buying a Custom Pro E.  So many mods, upgrades for it, and support.

i use my A-5 for speedball- my a-5 and me can keep up with impulses and ions.  I like the ion to but it seems to plasticy

  3. Ion has break beam eyes, A-5 has none
  4. Ion good on air efficiency, A-5 is a gas hog
  5. Ion is low pressure, A-5 is high pressure
  6. Ion has more modes(ramping)
  7. Ion stock board capped 17bps(new boards avaliable that will make it shoot faster), A-5 capped at 15(no new boards avaliable)

Thats a pretty good list to start with.

The ion is Not made of plastic. The outer shell is a vert durable compound(plastic) but the internals are protected by a metal covering. The internals themselves are also metal.

Ok I didn't want to quote ywsm's whole message so i did this but anyways i just want to add some stuff to it.

  1.  A-5 is mech, Ion is electropneumatic
  2. Ion is light, A-5 is heavy

  8. A-5 works fine with C02, Ion needs HPA
  9. A-5 comes with best hopper, Ion needs a revvy or such
  10. Ion neecds a new feedneck(i suggest a clamping feedneck), A-5 doesn't

All in all though if money isn't an issue get the Ion because it's still a good gun for woodsball and great for speedball. But if money is a factor get the A-5. Basically it all boils down to what type of game you like and how much money you have.

The cyclone is hardly the best hopper, it limits you to only around 17bps in short bursts and kills your air efficiency. I should know, I have an A-5.
