...I broke my left wrist.
I was snowboarding and I hit a jump that I have hit a dozen times, but this time something went wrong and I didn't land well. I went down hard on my left hand, because it happend so fast I didn't even have time to think to ball my fists, and well, now I'm typing whith one hand. Yes, this is my first year snowboarding if you had not already guessed it, but it will not be my last. |

I broke my wrist last year at work. That is a miserable experience.
Are you right handed? I broke my right wrist, but am left handed, so it wasn't quite as bad...you can still write and whatever. |

Had you had any formal lessons? A friend of mine and I taught ourselves how to board, and while we didn't break anything, the first few runs were enough to convince me that death might not be such a bad thing. I saw sore for about a week and a half. We still go from time to time, but I just don't have the enthusiasm for it that some people do. |

Sucks man. Snowboarding injuries aren't fun.
I went out after work the other day to board for a few hours... I only got 1 run in because I bombed the biggest jump in the park and came down wrong. My knee came up and blasted me in the chin, causing a dislocated jaw, a nearly bit-in-half tongue, and the loss of my consciousness. Ski patrol said I probably lost around a pint of blood. My boss was cracking up. |

heh. When I used to work for lift operations at the local ski slope, I saw all kinds of ski-snowboard unjuries that made you wince to think about them. Skiier injuries were always worse for some reason, although a lot more fun to watch, because their skiis pop off, their poles go flying, and the helmets or hats get catapulted into the air. When two skiiers get into a wreck, the resulting carnage will scatter all over the side of the hill. |

I've been snowboarding for 8 years now, and luckily I haven't yet had any serious injuries. I've gotten knocked out once, and banged my head pretty hard on a few more occasions. I've sprained and jammed wrists before plenty of times, and I've been almost too sore to move the next day, but thankfully I've never broken anything.
That sucks though. I hope it heals fast for you. |

Ya, snowboarding injuries seem to be very common, especially broken wrists, infact the doctor who patched me up broke his wrist in the same way doing the same thing.
Just to answer some questions; yes I am right handed, praise the Lord, so I can still write. Also, I did get formal lessons from a friend who has been boarding for many years, also, I have already had quite a bit of experience this season, but obviosly I still have a ways to go. *edit* Ya, I remember from being a skier, those wrecks were way cooler, I can remember a couple of times that I had my gear strewn all across the mountain. I never broke anything back then though. Edited by MT. Vigilante - 05 February 2007 at 11:40am |

Yard sales = awesome.
There's a run where I work called "The Wall." It's aptly named, since it's quite steep. Yesterday two skiiers collided at the top and slid down The Wall, losing their skis at the top. It was pretty funny watching them try to climb back up to get them until someone slid them down. |

Even once you're amazing, injuries are still highly possible. There was a competition held two days ago at Pine Knob, and some guy in it almost killed himself when he overshot the landing by 30-ish feet and tried to do a front flip. |

You know, other than a knuckle which was entirely my fault, I haven't either. I just know that when I do.....it's gonna be a GOOD one. |

Be happy you broke your left, if you broke the right the jokes you'd get would be neverending.

So true. You made me giggle, thanks. Living here in FLA sucks for me during the winter time. I just cant get in my car any givin weekend, drive an hour or so and hit the slopes like I did in NY. I tried surfing when I moved here but its not the same. There's no Lodge with hot totties.
