I agree with tallen.  The woods-prejudice against "speedball guns" is ridiculous.  If anything, many speedball electros have some qualities that are highly prized in the woods, like quiet operation and great efficiency.  Mechanical blowbacks are loud and inefficient.

But it all depends on what you are looking for.  And A-5/X-7, for instance, gives you a lower profile than a vertical feed gun (barring Qloaders/Warp feeds), which can be useful in the woods.  Mechanical guns also allow you to whip out a screwdriver to fix or tweak your gun, which makes many gear-heads happy.  Hard to tinker with your electro.

If you do enjoy milsimming, most of this gear is aimed at mechanical guns again.  It would be a challenge to milsim an Angel, although the Ion is breaking down this barrier as well.

For me, however, the main reason that I like to play mechanical in the woods is the feel of the gun.  Electros are fun, but they feel so artificial to me.  I'll play with those inside, but when I'm bellycrawling I want a gun that shakes when I shoot, and makes enough noise to wake the neighbors.

There is little doubt that my Angel is the "best" gun I have (and I have many guns), but that doesn't mean that it is the most fun.  And isn't fun what this is really all about?

So pick the gun that makes you feel happy inside.  If unloading ropes at 20bps gives you that special feeling, buy a nice electro.  If you want a loud obnoxious gun that looks scary and you can take apart yourself, buy a blowback. 

Or whatever else gets you excited.

You either love or hate pump play. Dont invest a lot yet. Look for a Traccer, Maverick, or SL-68 II to test out pump play.

I love pump play and doubt I will ever own another semi gun(unless I decide to pick up some pneus and the works for my cocker). All of the people that I play with who have tried it hated it.

Tallen mentioned a gun worth lookign into. DMLCDs, more commonly referred to as DM3s, are selling for cheap now with a lot of upgrades on them. Throw a 68/4500 and a Halo on it, and you have one nice machine that can handle woodsball or speedball.

I don't think I have ever heard that before - the converse is stated frequently, however.  You can get by with less firepower in the woods, but in speedball firepower is seriously important.

But playing pump when others are playing semi+ will place you at a major disadvantage no matter what the game.  Doesn't mean it can't be done, but it is very challenging.

Only get the pump if you don't mind being outgunned.  Because you will be outgunned.
