Why have just one AR-15 when you can have two? My picnic table is packing some pretty heavy fire power.

So...why do you need an assault rifle in the first place? I mean, i'm all for right to bear arms...but I highly doubt you'll ever need more than a handgun to protect yourself and your family from an intruder. An assault rifle is completely excessive. It's not like Al Qaeda is invading or anything

Why do some people have trucks when everyone could use less pollution causing cars? Who says it's for self defense? He may just enjoy shooting them, hell I would. And if there was an intruder in my house, I would want an assault rifle over a 9 anyday... Matter of fact, I want the 7.62 just to make sure. Edited by Heres To You - 10 June 2008 at 5:03am |

Dually noted, i too would like to shoot big guns. That being said it's still excessive. While everyone would rather have an assault rifle, a pistol more than does the job. They all do the same thing. I'm glad you brought that up. We shouldn't drive trucks. It just gives gas companies more of a reason to charge such high prices. Supply and demand. If we all drove more fuel efficient cars we would be in control of the market again. Or at least in more control. |

So.....exactly what color IS the sky in the world you live in? No one said anything about 'needing' assault rifles. I'm sure you have plenty of things that you don't 'need.' We've got the ability to purchase, own, and shoot them, so why not take advantage of that? Its like any other hobby- unless you're into it, you probably just don't get it. Why do you have a shroud for a M203 on the lower one, but no M203? Lame.

Who said he needed it to defend himself ? It's a gun, no different than the others. They all kill people the same way. |

I'd rather have a .45 than an AR-15 for home protection. An AR-15 at close range will just go through the target, a .45 will knock 'em down good. But I wouldn't mind having some assault rifles, in case China invades. Then I could create a bad ass militia. If I wasn't still in the military. |

Guns kill people. Dead is dead. Some are larger than some other guns but for the most part not. .223 is a mouse gun IMO. Now a .308 will do some damage. |

If I really wanted to keep people away from my house, I'd get a bunch of those black powder musket-pistols that pirates used. Just have to make sure you hit the target

That depends on what "the job" is. For killing baddies, sure a pistol will probably do fine for most folk. But for collecting, showing off on the interwebz, looking at, holding, caressing... Each gun is different. Taking a completely utilitarian approach to these things is not helpful. Kind of like explaining why I have more than a dozen paintball guns. They all also can "do the job", but I still love them all the same. Edited by Rambino - 10 June 2008 at 12:39pm |

If you also have to go outside to shoot coyotes, hunt small critters, or want a modular platform for everything from target shooting to moose hunting, an AR-15 is a good choice. Parts and knowhow are also widely available and no doubt will be for for some time. AR's also have good ergonomics and in a pinch would make a better club than a pistol.
