Safety Razors!

Just ordered a safety razor off of Amazon. For those of you who are unfamiliar, here's a picture of the one I snagged:



I have a buddy that uses one similar to this. I asked him why the hell he shaves with it (his looks like its literally from the 1930's). He said he only spends about 10 bucks a month on razor blades for it, much cheaper than buying disposable razors. I gave his razor a shot. I cut my face twice, but it was the best shave I've had in a long while. I went online to further research safety razors. Little did I know there's some kind of underground safety razor cult out there. Not that I want to be a part of it, I just figured I'd give it a shot. If it really is the last razor I'll buy, it will be worth it. If not, back to my disposable, no big deal.

So does anyone else shave with these things?

I'll post an update when it comes, along with any battle wounds should I attain them.

I use a Merkur HD open-comb and either Feather blades from Japan or Merkur super platinum blades from Germany.

I think the last time I purchased razors was 2006.

My Fusion gets the job done nicely.

Tallen - I bought a 30-pack of feather blades when I purchased my Merkur. From the reviews I read they are one of the top brands. Cheap too, I think I paid like 10 bucks on Amazon for 30.

Dave - I was about to get a badger brush and some good shaving soap, but I'm going to wait until after this deployment. I'd rather not be the jerk-off that takes 30 minutes to shave while everyone else in my berthing is trying to shave/hygeine at the same time. However I will definitely check out that site...added to favorites!

I'm actually a bit surprised there's some safety razor shavers out there...well Tallen didn't really surprise me since he's done everything at least twice in his old age .

I will stick to my electric razor.

I have a braun 3 series that I use when I don't have time for a blade.  When I do have time, I use a Mach 3 that works well.  I thought about getting a safety razor, but don't want to chance it in sensitive areas.  I only go through a blade about every 2 or 3 months, so cost isn't much of an issue.
