All of you were new to the sport at one time. Are you acting childish because you are children? Are your lives so lame that you find entertainment in flaming strangers due to their lack of experience in a recreational sport?
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Clear you PM BOX LB!

Also, most of the people ask repetive questions that could have been answered via the search button.

EDIT: MEH, I thought you were talking about new to the forums...Well, you are new to the forums, so you can read my post if you want.

Yeah, search the forums. Search using google. If you do both of those to the best of your ability then you will not get flammed, I promise.

A lot of people on here think that because people will answer their obvious questions, they don't even need to make an effort to find the answer themselves. There are a lot of things I don't know the answer to. If I don't know the answer, and nobody else has answered the question, then I hop on google and try to find it for my self. I benefit from peoples questions, and that is why I spend more time then I should on here.

One of the classics on here is, "Where can I buy _____?" Insert anything you would buy for paintball. There are some hard to find products out there, I will admit it. But most things, if you type what you want into google, about 1000 places come up that you can buy it from. But always check the more reliable stores first when buying on the internet. Most of us have had great luck with the following:

Second is, "What barrel should I buy?" Currently There are 809 threads discussing peoples barrels. Make and educated conclusion of your own.

Third and most important, read this. It will answer many questions about the forum, and paintball. Read it in it entirety.

Good luck, and welcome to the forums.

New players get made fun of if they do something ridiculous or stupid on the field like pull a mask off (very dangerous) or if they team kill or shoot a ref (very hilarious)

Anyways. Yes we were all new and most of us embrace newbies except stupidity.

A lot of it has to do with the arrogance of some of the members here who seem to think that just because they have sit if front of the PC and posted 5000 times, that they have the right to be so.

They’ll flame someone for not searching but yet it seems to be OK for 30 people to post a reply consisting of “ search newbie!” or just quote each other and add some ignorant smiley face to it just to increase their own post count.

Then there are the members who somehow believe that they have to sit there and answer all questions and post replies, stating that they are so tired of having to respond to them. They would like to think that they are the leaders of this forum, but they aren’t.  These are also the same individuals who complain about how the forum has gone downhill, but have done absolutely nothing to help it.

Actually, I like S\/\/4T-L()G4N’s response, it was probably the most helpful I’ve seen in a while and I salute him for it.

Notorious Bob,

Yes, absolutely.  That and the useless posts that just say to “search”, and then provide nothing else.  Anyone who has read the threads in this forum know that they have to wade through miles of schlock, shoveled out by individuals who believe that it’s their duty to have to respond.  Newbies joining the forum see this and are hesitant to ask questions as a result of it.

Now, I do agree that some degree of searching is in order but again, you can go through hundreds of posts on a subject and not read a darn thing that is anywhere near useful or even relevant to the title of the thread.  Most start out OK, but then degenerate into spam of one kind or another.

So, given this, is there any question as to why a lot of people just start new threads?

The only time i laugh at new players is if they are incredibly ignorant and think they know it all. Or when they do something incredibly stupid. One kid was staying back the whole game of a 30 min. woods game. I tried to help him from the sidelines and tell him where to move up and his team was also telling him the same spot. He doesn't listen and thinks he's cooler than me and what happens. He gets bunkered. It's times like those that make me mad.

Bass,

I have seen this as well.  The best thing you can do is to approach this person after the fact and say something to the effect of  “I saw what happened, can I offer you some additional strategies and tactics you might like to use”?

Many people don’t like to hear advice, it may even be embarrassing for them to take it, even if they would really like to do so.  So again, I’d put it in the form of the above question.  If they decline, then so be it.  You can sit back and rest well with the knowledge that you tried to assist.  Not everyone is going to be receptive to such a thing, especially from a stranger.  The fact that you tried to help, puts you above most.

For myself, I would welcome such a thing.  Despite having played for 10 straight years, I consider myself a newbie as I have recently started playing again this year after several years out of the game.

For helping, or at least trying to help – salute to you!

Now that we are on that topic, I really feel the need to point some fingers.

Look at most of the spam, or off topic posts. I can honestly say that it USUALLY starts with evil_fingers or crimp flamming smitty for something. I'm sick of it. I don't think I would be wrong to say that over half of the topics go unanswered because there are 2-4 pages of them going back and forth at eachother. If this was my forum both of them would be IP banned. But its not...

S\/\/4T-L()G4N,

Actually, it still is the same topic.  It still has to do with the original question and how newcomers to the forum perceive the ability to get any sort of answers to their questions.  One of the problems again, is that who would want to search when they know they would have to crawl through a seemingly endless barrage of pointless postings.

I have done research in the threads and while I can understand the point of it, the reality is that it’s way too much of a pain to be considered an effective method for gathering information.  Sad, but true.

Now, to answer CoolHand’s question, too many newcomers are incorrectly labeled as being lazy for posting their questions just because it was already posted before.  Too often they are flamed just because some ignorant fool thinks that just because they have more postings, that this gives them the right to be insulting and to make stupid decisions based on a complete lack of understanding of the big picture.

These types of individuals already know who they are, I don’t need to start posting names here. They will also typically be the same ones who find it acceptable to spam with one-word, or no-word quotes or responses.

Whiteknight457,

I don’t agree with you on this.  I agree that some research has to be done but if it was that easy, why did it take you 3 years to complete yours?  I would imagine that it was a result of having to filter through so much erroneous information and outright garbage.

This is the problem that many newcomers face.  Perhaps common sense plays a part, but I think that many newcomers get slammed because they just don’t know stuff yet.  Supposed “veterans” and the like get annoyed and frustrated when asked the most menial of questions, forgetting that they themselves had to ask the very same questions at one point.

Again, arrogance plays a big part in that, there’s certainly no shortage of that here.  Between that, and the completely useless spamming, usually typified here by the quoting of the same thing over and over again or some equally useless, inane acronym like “ROFL”, it’s a wonder that any real information actually gets through.

Kudos to you for doing the research!  You can pay homage to the individuals who helped you by helping others here without assuming they are lacking in common sense.  There’s a big difference between no common sense and having no operational knowledge regarding a certain subject.  It all depends on someone’s frame of reference.
