Guess What Guys?!  You can help Darur prepare his little speech for the 8th graders!  YIPPIE!!!!

Heres what I plan to present if you have any ideas to make it better, postafy them.

HAVE FUN!

Speech :

Good Morning 8th graders, I'm going to talk to you about the Dues for students at King Kekaulike High School.  Lets start with the mandatory dues.

All students are required to pay $8 for ASKK dues, that's Associated Students of King Kekaulike, and $8 to cover your class dues.

Now, there are several other fees you have the option to pay.  Firstly, you can purchase a yearbook for $50.  If you loose your ID card its $5 to replace it.  If you plan to eat at school its 35 cents for breakfast, $1 for Wiki, and $1 for lunch.

Talk about Taco Bell, Family Guy, and the American Dream. If I can do it in a physics paper, you can do it in anything.

Wiki = Mini lunch.  Think lunch at morning recess or a smaller lunch at lunch.

And although its a deal, bear in mind every meal contains either chicken patties, chicken nuggets, chicken strips, or any other way you can prepare chicken.

I'll admit that it isn't the most relevant of papers, but it got the job done. He left a loophole, you see. "Review the article writers style of writing." It's bulletproof.

Be like The Mars Volta.  Use big words that make sense, but confuse the crap out of people that aren't sitting there with a dictionary.

Clever

Oh well, the goal isnt to make it long, I just want a speech thingy that will put them into a trance of pure boredom, thus preventing them from noticing I am shaking like a leaf (public speaking = not my thing)

If those are all the facts, you seem to have it covered.  Basic speech rules/format:

  • Tell them what you're going to tell them (Introduction)
  • Tell them (Main Body)
  • Tell them what you told them (Conclusion/Summation)

You have a good basic intro and the main body seems okay.  Consider a short conclusion such as "I've covered the basic school fees you need to know about, does anyone have any questions?  If you do offer the opportunity for questions, be prepared.  Also, keep in mind that they may ask questions even if you don't offer the opportunity.  I recommend taking the time to come up with a list of possible questions and having prepared/written notes on the answers.  Additional facts, even if not used are helpful.  It is impressive when you can snap out an answer to a question and even if the information isn't used, having it makes you feel more prepared which helps with the nervousness issue.

On the "nerves" issue, I recommend the following:

  • Have notes for the speech with you-If you don't use them they provide reassurance, but their is nothing wrong with using them as long as you look up occasionally to maintain eye contact with your audience.
  • Practice it until you're sick of it, then do it a few more times.  Preparation is the best weapon against nervousness.
  • I'm assuming you are older than the 8th graders.  With this in mind you already have an advantage; They will automatically respect you for the knowledge you have of the High School that they have not had the chance to gain.  In their eyes you will be a subject expert.

Hope this helps, good luck.
