internal conflicts recently and it occurred to me to bring this to the forum - A place where I'm afforded a certain degree of anonymity. First I'll have to start with some general background information (so you can get a better idea of where I'm coming from)... This will be a relatively long post, so if you're the type to punch in some stupid, "that's too long L0L!1" garbage, you can stop right here. The truth is, I've always felt I was a little different. Even when I was about six it seemed that I got my kicks differently than the other boys in my school. While they were playing football or arm wrestling it seemed like I was always painting or practicing violin. I learned extremely quickly, however, that this was "unacceptable" by the general standard. I quickly developed was of veiling this glaring difference. Most of you on the forum know me as goofy, spontaneous, etc. etc. - One of my many facades to avoid the obvious fact that I'm a homosexual. There it is - first time I've told anybody. Probably the first time I've ever truly admitted it to myself. I've been having a really hard time coming to grips with this fact alone, but it gets even more complicated (unfortunately). As some of you may know (or maybe not) I just returned to a public school after attending private school for five years. The people are a little less open-minded, but there is also, I've found, a more diverse student body - That is to say, more homosexual guys my age. This is completely new to me, and with it has come a problem... I'm attracted to a boy in one of my classes, and am possibly interested in dating him. Not only is homosexuality an extremely dangerous thing to persue in a highschool environment, but I also haven't (and don't know how to) come out of the closet. Please help me out on this one guys. Any advice, personal experience, etc. would be much aprecciated - as well as your utmost seriousness in the matter. -Prod Edited by -ProDigY- |

Wow, I never knew.
Well, I really have no experience in the matter but so long as you dont make a huge deal about it and do it gracefully, it should be ok. Granted a few idiots wont make it easy, but you cant do anything about that. Best of luck! P.S - There are numerous clubs and groups about this, check them out. P.P.S - As Cedric pointed out, you still have my respect Edited by Darur |

Well, if you are joking. You have been funier, mearly because of the fact that if i laugh, and you arent joking i will feel like a horses behind.
But if you arent. There are some good people in highschool, but becareful who you tell and whatnot, high school kids can be very very mean and cruel to others that are different. |

Yep, i was showering after wrestling, as i was getting ready to shower up and go home. I heard something, got my towel, and there was a kid ive known for years, really hurt, im not going to go into any specifics, but he was hurt pretty badly, because someone found out he was homosexual. Some kids beat him to a pulp and did some other things to him. He never said who it was.

ask people to be serious and this is how you react? Grow up. It didn't even occur to me that tomorrow is April fools...Incredibly crappy timing. I guess those of you who choose not to believe me, oh well; but I thank those of you who know me well enough to take me seriously. |

Hey! I too agree that you should hold off your homo-endeavors until after high school. This is because most high school students are too immature to know how to deal with co-existing with a homosexual person. So instead they go about it in the normal immature high school manner and ridicule you, discriminate against you, and essentially make your life hell. Now if I didn't know you for as long as I have and was a complete jerk, I would have ripped you apart with this post instead of consult you. That's because personally...I don't like **edited**s, never have. But like I said, I know you, respect you, and have no real reason to do that. Good Luck with everything! Much repsect for "coming out of the closet"! That takes balls! Edited by Lawless |

Bold first step - well done. *applauds* I am inclined to parrot Hades' advice - without knowing more about your school, I would agree that you unfortunately could be in some physical/psychological danger in high school. College, particularly on either coast, will be much more open for you. As unfair as this is, I would also encourage you to hold off on dating until you are in a safe environment. Being publicly g.ay in high school is one thing - being publicly g.ay and dating is something else entirely. Many high schoolers are open-minded about homosexuality until they see it in action. So unless you are very confident that your school is "safe" (which does not sound to be the case), I would suggest waiting for some time. And I am not touching the subject of when/how to tell your family. Much more complicated. More importantly, however, I would suggest visiting some g.ay website/forums, if you haven't already. People there will have actual experiences to share, and you can remain anonymous while you learn. If you do this, however, BEWARE! Nothing attracts unsavory characters like "hi - I am innocent and need somebody to hold my hand while I come out." Deploy all shields at full strength. Which goes back to my earlier advice - postpone dating (my opinion - others may disagree). Teenage dating is hazardous at best for anybody - homosexual teenagers have the double whammy. Until you are more comfortable with yourself, I would suggest not getting involved with anyone - as frustrating as that can be. If you are truly isolated and don't know about forums/organizations/whatever (and don't want to ask the locals) and need some contacts, drop me a PM - I have some resources. Good luck. |

Wow. Well, I can say this much. Take stock of the school. I know around
here(other side of the state, given), people in our town are relatively
indifferent to stuff like this. It ranges from acceptance to an
undercurrent of disgust. You should probably talk to a guidance
counselor or someone who you trust a great deal. Good luck! You're
still the same guy you were 20 minutes ago in my book!
