Silencer arent illegal, they just have to be registered with the ATF and you have to pay your $200 tax on them, just like with real machine guns. Kind of a pointless law as I doubt it does much of anything to stop real criminals from using silencers, but gives the government the authority to make life hard for otherwise law abiding citizens who might now know the law so well. |

Face it, take the shroud off, and you can use any manner of ducttape,
and any silcencer scould be modified to fit on a gun. Oh and I bet it
could be attached to a musket.
If it can be attached and used, its illegal. |

if you use a pourus but firm fill inside the shroud, then it will take the shape of the curved barrel and not be able to be used with a real gun. also, using a the flatline on a musket wouldnt work. i think. the forces generated required for a killing speed on a musket would pretty much make the curved flatline explode, thus making it useless on a musket and extremely stupid. once again: i think. |

Note: They DO NOT say that paintball silencers are illegal. They say that SOME THEY HAVE TESTED HAVE BEEN FOUND to be compatible with firearms.
A paintball barrel could not be used with a musket. there's be far too much pressure, adn it would destroy the barrel. I guarantee the result would not be silent. You can't easily change the trajectory of a bullet using a hard barrel. (Caveat- 90* curved barrels were fielded in WW2. in limited numbers) A silencer needs to have a very close calibre match to be effective, otherwise the noise just gets out through the space between the projectile and the barrel. The ATF is wording their statement to try to scare people. They must prove that you can use it on a firearm if they want to charge you, and I guarantee that if a paintball will fit through the silencer, you'll be just fine using it without registering it with the ATF. NOTE: Under Canadian law: Prohibited devices include:

that is true but what many people dont realize is that a fire arm has to use fire or an exsplotion of some sort to get the projectile moving, like with a rifle the firing pin hits the primer the primer then makes a tiny "exsplotion" thats sets the gun powder on fire turning it into gasses that keep exspanding till the pressure is so great it shoots the bullet out the barrel, in a paintball gun there is not exsplotions or fire, so its not considered a "fire" arm its an air gun |
