My dad hunts Prairie Dogs with his M1A... I don't see how it's fair, the bullets are like 1/3 of their height... Haha.
He keeps the Garands locked up though. I'm pretty sure the M1A is his baby though, he even took off the really good looking stock to put a surplus one on so he could drill it for a bipod. |

Depends on the source.
If you're eligible to purchase from CMP... you can get a "Rack Grade" (Fair) for as little as $500. A "Service Grade" (Good to Very Good)will set you back $600. And a "Correct Grade" (Very Good to Excellent) $950. My Garand is "Correct Grade". Now, using a local gunshow by comparison...I saw several "Fair-Good" Garands for $750. "Good" Garands were around $900. "Very Good" Garands were $1050-1250. I didn't see any at the last few shows that I would consider to be "Excellent" condition, but can only guess that they'd be over $1300. |

down side to CMP is that you have to shoot in atleast 2 CMP matches or belong to a club that the CMP recognizes. A "beater" M1 is a great way to learn the rifle. Shorty! Time to hit those stocks with linseed oil!
