True Grit- redone...arghhhh

At this weekend event the sponsor David Carricos stoped by our campsite. He is a world class leathersmith and one thing he does is make leather gear for movie westerns. He mentioned he is making the leatherwear for the remake of 'True Grit'. Jesus can't hollywood come up with original ideas instead of ruining a classic. John Wayne's only Oscar and Hollywood is going to basterdize the original.

He also mentioned the upcoming remake of 'F-Troop' as a full length movie, originality is dead in hollywood obviously.

Good God no.

That movie is what it is because of the acting and directing styles that are long dead. Today's Hollywood cannot hope to match that. It will be awful.

I will not be seeing this movie...nor even recognizing its existence.

I don't like the old westerns, so I A)haven't seen the original true grit, and B) won't be seeing the remake.

I don't find westerns interesting up until Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone. I don't like the spit and polish look of early American westerns.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is one of the greatest films ever made as far as I'm concerned.

It's certainly in my top 5. Sergio Leone elevated the western to a much deepier, grittier level.

Talk about way ahead of his time. I'll bet if you looked hard enough TGTBATU is on alot of modern directors' top films list.

Another western on my Top 5 is Unforgiven.

I liked Wayne in 'The Undefeated', and of course my favorite westerns are a tie between 'The Unforgiven' and 'The Outlaw Josey Wales'.

I've got two DVD Collections that if I absolutely love- Man with No Name Trilogy, and John Wayne/John Ford Collection. I almost prayed that I caught Swine Flu this season so I could spend a few days just watching them.

Haha, they made the Man with No Name Trilogy available on Hulu for a while. I actually looked forward to going to work so when slow time hit, I sat back with some orange juice and chips and watched some Eastwood flicks. Good times were had.

I'll give John Wayne a shot though, maybe the movies will mean more to me now that I'm older than when I tried to watch them as a kid.

As a sidenote, did you hear they're remaking Have Gun Will Travel into a movie with Eminem set in modern day? I lol'd.

Nope, totally agreed with you. No Country was pretty much what the modern interpretation of a western should be. And I could totally see the relation between that movie and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly as far as directing style goes.
